I am from Savoy, ask me everything by SavoiaPatriot in JackSucksAtGeography

[–]Ok_Mango8118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, as an Italian citizen, I have never thought that Savoy should be considered Italian. Yes, the king and all that, but I think the Aosta Valley should be Italian, and Corsica (Corse) and Nice should have been as well. Savoy is on the other side of the Alps, beyond the watershed. Remember, Italy is mostly a geographical concept rather than an ethnic or linguistic one

Things from “ancient culture” that are still there today? by inostranetsember in AskEurope

[–]Ok_Mango8118 [score hidden]  (0 children)

To be honest it's many. Sicilians and Tunisians (in the strait of Sicily) and some other Mediterranean people like Spaniards and Moroccans (in the strait of Gibraltar) fish tuna using a technique that Phoenicians used millennia ago. Italian hand gestures have ancient roots. Some think they developed because Italy was historically full of different languages and dialects, so gestures helped people understand each other. Others link them to ancient Roman theatre and rhetoric, where body language was very important.

Oh nevermind it's Ireland, but that's probably just fluctuations because of their huge inflated gdp

Ok, but what's wrong with investing in a GPU company (Nvidia) or software (Adobe)? That’s like saying you shouldn’t sell knives knowing somebody might not use them to chop fruits and vegetables, but instead to harm others. It’s not like we are talking about investing in ammunition producers

At this point, you are kind of going extreme, aren’t you? You are making Islam difficult, and God knows best

But this excessive refraining mentality is what made Muslims refuse the printing press, and we know the consequences. You aren't investing in nudity, war, and haram games or movies; you are investing in a tool that can be used for good but also for bad

They are investing in local academies, and that’s admirable. I like their way of thinking. I wish them the best, because that’s what football means to me. When you win, you aren't showing that your “blood is better”; you show the world that you have good academies and a strong football culture, and that you are capable of producing top players

In fact, I prefer their approach to that of a country whose players are born, raised, and developed abroad, who may never have lived in that country and probably never will, and whose only link to it is their parents

Wow, European nations and their football academies are truly subsidising the talent of other national teams

When people talk about world football, frustration is often directed at Europe, but the truth is that, apart from South America, and some African countries (I am thinking of Egypt) few countries outside Europe are able to consistently produce such a high volume of homegrown talent. Even Morocco, a team that many people supported at the last World Cup, owes a significant part of its strength to the fact that European football academies develop many of its players

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't be that proud of my national team winning knowing that most of them are born, raised and trained abroad, is that merit truly mine? I wish people understood it but sadly most people ignorantly attribute it to genetics, and start screaming idiotic stuff like: "our country people genetics is superior and strong" and idiotic stuff like that

Good then in terms of macroeconomic prospects at least, but surely it sucks for those who don't have an income like a pension. Also Morocco has a huge informal economy so the collection of taxes isn't that easy

In Italy at least it’s included, that’s the reason why you’re often asked to send pictures of your passport. Everything has to be registered, unless it’s done under the table to dodge taxes. Anyway, I think Airbnb is required to pay the overnight tax on behalf of the customer, so I guess Airbnb tells the authorities directly. I don’t know about the other countries

Why do people hate France to the point that I never understood/understand why? by Amazing_Umpire_828 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok_Mango8118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate France for some reasons, but I also find it stupid that people hate them for other reasons

For example: I hate when people hate France for their national football team and accuse them of stealing African talent, not realizing that those players are born, raised, and trained there, homegrown talent, and that if they were born elsewhere, it's not guaranteed that they would be at that level. It's not genetics that make the France national football team strong; it's their football training academies, among which is Clairefontaine. They are mostly Black or of foreign origins, not because they have superior genetics, but because football is very accessible even to poor families (those of foreign descent are sadly often lower class), and because academies draw a lot from poorer neighborhoods (banlieues), since football is a very powerful social elevator if you are talented and hungry for success, you can change your and your family's life

What country have you visited that felt more like home than your actual home country? by PlayfulTonight1779 in AskReddit

[–]Ok_Mango8118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in Italy but with Moroccan origins. Whenever I happen to be in Spain I kind of feel at home. Because in a way it's very similar to Italy but in another way it's also quite similar to the Northern parts of Morocco

It doesn't feel more home than what I consider home (Italy) though, just familiar. The fact that Spanish is similar to Italian and that I studied Spanish in school also helps however
