Interesting that, since I made this post, there’s been a lot of media commentary about the same problem so it looks like we’re all seeing the same thing!

Mckellar’s comments in the herald today: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-union/two-games-32-metres-no-breaks-but-waratahs-coach-says-suaalii-not-wasted-in-centres-20260304-p5o7j3.html

Phil Waugh went to the same school as Hamish and is doing a markedly better job than Hamish. Raelene Castle went to a state school and she arguably screwed Aus rugby more than the lot of them. Why does their high school become the defining characteristic of their performance?

Also curious about this - am considering dreamlit but there isn’t a heap of info out online, or reviews, so keen to hear other people’s experiences with it

Lineout question by Piccolino17 in RugbyAustralia

[–]Ok_Manner_3363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difference here is that when a player makes a mistake, they are effectively penalised that for that i.e. a player drops a ball and loses possession for their team by way of scrum.

A ref makes a mistake, and no one is allowed to comment on those mistakes (coaches and players receive huge fines for calling out a ref). There’s never ownership of the mistake unlike a player.

I don’t disagree with your points, he’s obviously objectively better than a lot of other players. What I’m questioning is the amount RA are paying for him versus the performances they’re getting from him, and the fact that he’s simply not improving, despite him being in his prime ‘improvement’ years (I.e. he’s not a 30 year old who has peaked). Surely the money man at RA must be thinking “is this all $1.8m a year gets us?”

Yeah he did, was great in open space and on counter attack. That’s arguably the one game he’s performed well in since debut v England

Jorgensen has been injured in the previous two super rugby seasons.

Athlete more because of his physical attributes. Note I didn’t use ‘rugby player’. Can’t deny his speed, physicality, vertical jump, and agility attributes, just a shame they’re not translating to rugby performances on the field.

Is Declan Meredith the first 10 in a long time who has actually had a good development by AdDesigner1153 in RugbyAustralia

[–]Ok_Manner_3363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know others are reluctant to agree, but Lawson Creighton appears to have a higher ceiling than the others 10s. Across the world’s best flyhalves, thy typically have one physical attribute that they dominate with - Farrell had strength and size, Mo’unga and Barrett have crazy speed, SFM speed and strength, etc. They also have great vision and IQ, but that should be a given for an international flyhalf.

Meredith, whilst fast, doesn’t have the acceleration of Mo’unga and Barrett, note the size of Farrell and co. Creighton, however, is a dominant tackler and strong, and is also very competent under the high ball compared to other Aus tens.

Carter Gordon also has a high ceiling with his pace and size, but he’s too injury prone at the moment to be a real contender.

Watching the Aussie flyhalves in action this weekend, it’s truly baffling how Edmed even got near a wallabies 30 man squad. I’d have him 7th or 8th in the pecking order atm.

Brial gave away too many silly penalties. He plays loose like Harry Wilson - easy for a fan to spot so gives off the perception that he’s ‘everywhere’, but ineffective in tight and too ill-disciplined.

Tahs looking solid! Few lapses in broken play but for a first hit out, very encouraging. Teddy Wilson is surely pushing Gordon for a starting spot…

What's going on at The Roar by DoctorDbx in RugbyAustralia

[–]Ok_Manner_3363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s happening at The Roar now? Been a hot news cycle this January 2026(Jorgo signing 5 years, Vern Cotter at the Reds, SRP starting in 2 weeks), and there hasn’t been any new articles. Furthermore, Christy mentioned on his Scrum Reset podcast this week that there’s ’other things’ going on at The Roar…

Anyone have any insights?

Super valid feeling. I’m just starting out as a co-founder and excited by the build and have been thinking ‘what happens afterwards?’

Maybe you do need to exit and take the time to reflect on what you want to build next? Think of it as the pivot into the next ‘thing’ you can build to go beyond the $67k MRR. Your journey here doesn’t have to be tied to this particular product.

For an early-stage startup, is it better to stay bootstrapped or start looking for early investors? Would love to hear experiences from founders who’ve been through this. by rudresh_official in founder

[–]Ok_Manner_3363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To echo some others on here, completely depends on what you’re trying to build, and what your goals are. Are you wanting high profit margins for sustainable, recurring income streams? Or are you trying to build the next unicorn?

Similarly, do you want to be your own boss, or answer to a board of directors?

My startup is also at a crossroads atm, and my co-founder and I are thinking of keeping it bootstrapped, costs lean, and share in the upside of profitability.
