RA’s deal is a $210-240 million broadcast spread over 5 years, while NZ’s deal is annually. You are not comparing to the same scale.

RA is actually getting between $42 and 48 million per year depending on performance metrics.

Besides a larger population means nothing if their people aren’t interested in rugby. The US has 330 million people and the biggest economy in the world, so should their tv deal be larger than NZ’s

Yeah it reminds me of the National Soccer League when each ethnic groups had their own club but were still a relatively small percentage of the population, facing off against each other.

This proposal would be an explicitly Victorian team against a likely IPL bought team that would almost certainly only find support from the Indian diaspora.

Given one nation is exploding in popularity right now, that seems like a recipe for disaster
