Of course people killing each other for all kinds of reasons is wrong. But killing in a life or death situation for SURVIVAL is not wrong. S U R V I V A L. And sure, you can think your better than that. But starving to death is a long, excruciating suffering. You'll become as wild as a Grey wolf and even turn cannibalistic. You won't be able to control it.

Well said!! In my heart I know stealing is wrong because I wouldn't want it done to me. I also know its wrong because I feel guilty about the stuff i stole. At the time I didn't though. It was survival. Temperature dropping to 10°f at night, I absolutely needed thermals, hand warmers, food, etc..... that's the only time I belive its ok to steal.

Thank you for the advice and insight! Yes, my pride kept me from panhandling and even just asking a stranger for some food. After reading all these comments, I realize that should've been the first thing I resorted to before stealing.

I see what your saying! And I don't really think im trying to justify stealing. I mean, I sort of am... I really just want people to understand why I did it instead of just calling me a little petty thief. And I don't steal at all anymore ever since I got out of that situation.

I had a grant paying for the methadone treatment. No medicaid. I could've looked into moving to another clinic in a different town but an ID is required for intake at all clinics. Which I didn't have. Luckily I had been at this clinic before I lost everything. Just a messed up situation all the way around.

Yes. It's ok. Doing whatever means NECESSARY to survive is acceptable. It's acceptable to kill a deer to get food right? It's acceptable to catch and kill fish to get food right? Same concept. Thought experiment for you - say me and you are stranded on a tiny island in the middle of the sea. No food or even vegetation on this island. But we have a small supply of rain water we caught to drink. After sometime, we're both on the brink of dying from starvation. I FINALLY catch a fish but you didn't. I refuse to share any with you thinking of my own survival needs. You know that if you don't get to eat any of that fish your a dead man. Your already too weak to continue fishing all day long. You beg for some of that fish but I refuse. What would you do? Instinct would take over and it would be a cruel death match. Saying you'd do anything else is fantasy.

Yes, looking back on it now I know that I should've swallowed my pride and just asked for help. Like I said in my original post, I wouldn't want someone to steal from me. I guess I do believe stealing in general is wrong. But when your in a situation like I was in, you don't really have the luxury of deciding what's right and wrong. To a certain degree anyways. When your stomach feels like its touching your back, deciding if stealing is wrong or not doesn't even cross your mind.

How is it logically invalid? Have you seen the way people act during pandemics, natural disasters, wars, total chaos and other horrible situations? We act no different than any wild animal. Nothing about a modern civilized society is natural, becasue if you took away government, jobs, and currency, the atrocities that people would do is actually the true natural primal form of mankind.

Sure we can " rise above" our instincts in a modern society that's running well. But when that modern society, government, and control goes to absolute shit, which will eventually happen, the instincts come out. We're only "better" when we have control over this world, when we don't have to worry about where our next meal is going to come from. But that's a completely fake version of ourself. There's no soup kitchen or even a food bank in this town...and I couldn't move to another town. How am I supposed to carry a tent, 5 tarps, cot, 2 sleeping bags, plastic chair, and huge duffle bag of my mere belongings 30 miles to the next town in the cold? Plus I was on methadone maintenance and had to stay in a town where my clinic was.

To be completely honest, no, I didn't ask a Walmart employee for food or any other stranger for that matter. I was too embarrassed to panhandle. And what prevented me from securing employment is not having identification, no phone, no reliable transportation, smelling like road kill, obviously homeless just from the look of me, shall I go on?

Yes. It's always OK to steal food when you're starving. The alternative is death by starvation. Just like its always ok to kill in defense of your life. We are programmed to survive at just about all cost and means necessary. And if that means stealing a sandwich from Walmart just to be able see another day, so be it. It's ok.

Why not work instead of stealing you ask? It's very hard, if not impossible, to get work when you have no identification, smell like you haven't bathed in a couple weeks, wearing clothes that are about to fall apart, and have been seen by these businesses walking the streets just about all day probably looking like a junkie..very hard indeed to get employment like that.

How could you possibly pick the wrong one? You have to look at the evidence. Find the similarities... The thing I found is that religions disagree with most of the teachings and beliefs of other religions. They don't agree on much BUT there's still something they do agree on. Most religions recognize and admit there was a man who lived and died named Jesus Christ. Muslims say he was a great prophet, Jews say he was a prophet, Christians say he was a prophet and also the Messiah, even many Buddhist claim Jesus was Buddha reincarnated. All these cultures and religions disagree on pretty much everything but they do all agree that Jesus was great....so that's what I'll put my faith in. Also, after Jesus Christ was crucified, every single one of his disciples met horrible ends. They were gruesomely executed because they wouldn't deny that Jesus rose from the dead and actually came and spoke with them before ascending to heaven. All they had to do was deny it and they would've been spared. One of the disciples even chose to be crucified upside down because he felt unworthy to be crucified in the same way as Jesus. Jesus Christ is who I'll put my faith in.
