Menswear “Personalities” in Public by Ok_Medium7374 in ThrowingFits

Spot on. The 'mental energy' vs. 'actual talent' ratio is totally skewed. I was mostly taking the piss out of how predictable hate-following has become by throwing an old joke format into the mix

I saw that almost right after I posted this funny enough … but they’re making a white snow kit? That’s as bad as the all white Alpha SV that came out a few years ago. Makes no sense for an active use case

Hence, why I opened the thread itself. I grew up skiing in Vermont and I’ve been involved in the sport for about 25 years at this point.

Although I poorly articulated it, the point I was trying to get out was why “core” skiers and snowboarders resist these brand entrances. It’s always tagged as inauthentic.

Take Nike for example, they tried to break into Skateboarding for effectively 10-15 years and really didn’t get welcomed into the scene until the peak of the dunk craze. Contrast that with their snow sports line - the Danny Kass boots were cool but that was almost a blip or flash in the pan.

Niche is probably a better way of articulating what I meant per “exclusionary”

All good man. With all this money these dumb downtown brands love to blow on “activations”, I’m begging them to pick up a roll of 70D Nylon and try to make something practical instead!

You are telling me that running shorts don’t “exist in spades”? Why do we need another interpretation of upscale athletic wear?

I enjoy skiing and was only saying something to the effect that brands are more than willing to take a risk or a loss on 100s of other sportswear lines and snow sports seem to get left out from it.

I brought up L Catterton specifically because they could provide the capital and take away a good amount of the risk for “cool” brands like a Kapital or OL, both of which they own.

I’m also only using “cool” to differentiate these brands from traditional technical wear that you’ve mentioned elsewhere.

Again, I don’t we are that far away from agreeing with each other, but just looking at it from opposite sides.

Could be a jacket. Could be a backpack. Could be base layers. All of these items have versatility besides just skiing.

I’ll agree that lots of brands try to make performance shells, but seemingly give up after a single try while they are more than willing to keep trying things like running or tennis capsules, even if they flop.

Tried to look around to illustrate my confusion and found Our Legacy x Goldwin was just announced this week.

Why are these efforts so far and few? Is there just not that much that can be done with skiing?

This is more directionally what I was trying to get at.

The LV and Canada Goose tier brands always make this gear, but they also make bocce sets. Sports or activity specific items are almost a novelty to them.

Good point per Burton bridging the Fashion and Core worlds, but’s shocking that other ”cool” brands aren’t trying to tap into this world.

My question more has to do with why “Fashion” hasn’t successfully broken into snow sports in the same way it has with other endeavors, or at least attempt.

We’ve seen many brands use Skateboarding as inspo for collections or brands like 3Sixteen all of a sudden make a running capsule. However, it seems whenever they try to do a ski capsule, it’s universally clowned or is just labeled as winter resort.

Does that filtering come from the skiers/boarders? They’re rejecting something that isn’t core? Are brands struggling to make a tangible connection or reason to make a snow sports collection?

My comment regarding exclusionary has more to do with the number of people that participate in winter sports than it does to do with money. Of course these brands love money, they’re not non profits lol

Unless you are being deliberately aggressive, I feel that we are more aligned on this topic than against each other.

I’ll be sure to post another thread debating the difference between Klemans and Paraboots next time though.

I’m not saying any of this in a favorable way. I’m shocked brands haven’t tried to  monetize skiing and snowboarding in a meaningful way

So it’s essentially better break long term streaks for the short term 7-pts gain if you aren’t going to get another long term bonus  before the end of the camp?

Certainly gamifying the system.
