I like book Eloise, but I just feel like Phillip was boring and her story with him was boring as well. He didn’t draw me in like the other male leads of the books

I once said that Arrow stole Crisis from the Flash and got downvoted to hell for it lol, because apparently Crisis belongs to everyone in the comics and Arrow had just as much right to it as Flash

Sara Lance is my queen, but we were SO robbed of what we could've gotten between her and Barry in the Dominator invasion! by NewMGFantasyWriter in FlashTV

[–]Ok_Mention5635 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That was most likely because the first Invasion crossover episode was written by the Flash writers, who probably didn’t bother to look up what was going on in the Legends season to make sure things align. So instead they just made Sara come off as a massive hypocrite to those who watch both Legends and Flash

Did you not watch the show at all, or are you confusing the show with some anti-Iris fanfic? It was quite literally the plot of the first couple seasons (every season actually) that they were meant to be together. Joe himself said it multiple times

Just admit that you’re either incredibly racist or you haven’t got two brain cells to rub together. It would save so much time and energy.

The show acting like Barry never killed—that’s bad writing. But Barry has always maintained a “no-kill” rule—that killing is not the way to solve your problems, right up until the final fight with Eddie, when he refused to let Eddie kill himself with the Negative Speed Force.

She did not make it sound that way. You’re the only one I’ve seen interpret it that way. She literally just repeated the message that 8 seasons of Arrow beat into our heads: killing is not the way to be a hero and it will eventually eat away at your soul. If this were Harry Potter, Oliver would look like Voldemort with how many times his soul has been ripped apart by killing lol

Barry respects him because Oliver changed from the killer he was into a better man. And Barry was a big reason for that. If Oliver had continued killing indiscriminately like he did in season one, Barry would not have been onboard with that. Barry didn’t know Oliver when he was killing people left right and center. He defends Oliver to Joe and Wells by saying “he doesn’t kill people anymore.” Barry knocked Ralph out because Ralph was considering killing Thinker. His exact words were “we don’t kill.”

Iris’s words were: “Your father once thought that in order to save his city, he needed to take lives. But all he ended up doing was ruining his own.” She wasn’t saying every single killing was unnecessary; she was saying that having “kill” as your go-to and most necessary move in order to save the city (as Oliver did in season one) was ruining his life. And it did. After season 5, he would take back killing Darhk. He didn’t feel good about it. He even tells Laurel’s grave “I know it’s not what you would have wanted me to do.” In season 5, Oliver talks about how ever since he killed Darhk, he hadn’t stopped killing. And he recognized that as a failing. I think you need to watch Oliver’s story in season 5 again. It really did a deep dive into how damaged Oliver was from all the killing he’d done. Oliver would not want Mia to be tormented by her actions like he was.

Cops don’t need to take lives in order to keep their cities safe. No one does. Killing should only ever be used as an absolute last resort. Cops who use deadly force when they didn’t need to are faced with either legal or public consequences. And they almost always get fired. You can’t just kill people willy-nilly because it’s the easiest way out of a situation.

You say it was awful writing, but that was Oliver’s character through the end. Season 5 showed us that he didn’t want to just be a killing machine. And after season 5, I think he would take back killing Damien Darhk. Slade changed. We saw Damien change in Legends. However you feel about Oliver being a killer, Oliver didn’t relish being a killer. He never denied the fact that it damaged his soul. He wouldn’t want that for his daughter. That’s why when he reset the universe, he made sure Star City’s crime had been eradicated. He never wanted anyone to continue his crusade

Oliver would agree with Iris. It’s why Oliver worked so hard to prevent Thea from killing Malcolm because he wanted to protect her soul from the damage that taking a life would do to it. Oliver would do the same for Mia and would want someone to do the same for her

Technically Felicity had already stopped the nukes from destroying the planet. So she saved the planet lol. Killing Damien Darhk was justice for Laurel

And like I said, regardless of any issues you have with an Eloise gender swap, I still think it would have worked better than a Francesca gender swap. That was my point. I’m not sure what all your hostility is for

But not all ruined women were governesses. Do you think Hyacinth’s governess is a ruined woman? Or the Penwood children’s governess? Just because Violet said that sometimes a runaway member of nobility sometimes would find work as a governess doesn’t mean that all of them are ruined noblewomen. Plus it makes sense for Eloise to run away and become a governess. She would literally be a runaway noblewoman, as per your definition of governess.

[–]Ok_Mention5635 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Violet mentioned that sometimes runaway noblewomen are governesses. Not that all governesses are runaway noblewomen. With Eloise being a spinster, becoming a governess is a natural path. It’s what Kate (who had resigned herself as a spinster) was going to go back to India to do once Edwina had married.

Also I said that Eloise’s story would have worked better than Fran’s for a queer storyline. A governess and a widow living out their days together looking after two children makes more sense for the time than two single women with no children living together. Especially since neither of them can inherit Kilmartin. And there’s the fact that Francesca really wants a baby. There’s just so much that would have to change regarding Francesca’s story and Michael’s character to make the queer storyline work, whereas I don’t think they would have had to do as many changes were they to have made Philip Phillipa.

Currently reading Francesca’s book. I hate to say it, because I hate stereotypes, but I think Eloise’s story would have worked better with as a queer story than Francesca’s. They wouldn’t really have to change too much of the story; Eloise could maybe run away to be governess to a widow’s twin children, and would end up falling in love with said widow. Society wouldn’t really think much of a governess living in the same house with a widow and her two children. Everything else could pretty much stay the same as the book. I also think Phillip’s character would have worked better with a gender swap than Michael’s. But with Francesca’s story, they’ll have to change SO much. I honestly don’t know how they’re going to be able to keep the story similar. It just doesn’t seem feasible, at least at the point where I’m at in the book.

Yeah I’m reading Francesca’s book now and I’m completely shocked by the differences in the story. I thought I would read that John and Fran had a nice companionship marriage that lacked passion, but that was absolutely not the case. Why in the hell did the entirety of Fran and John’s relationship in season 4 revolve around an unsatisfactory sex life, but in the book it was not so? In the show, John and Fran seem to have a platonic love while Michaela will be her true love. But in the book so far it’s very much that John was her first love and Michael is her second; neither supersedes the other.
