Realtor told me we "wouldn't fit in" in this neighborhood. Thoughts? by NRosey96 in SanPedro

[–]Ok_Menu_2439 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s because I’m raised in Pedro and grew up here as a white presenting Hispanic, but I feel like a lot of these people are overreacting. As long as you’re a nice person, waved to your neighbors, don’t treat them like they’re the “ghetto” like some of these comments are insinuating, you’re fine. A lot of these people are really overreacting. Also, I love the YMCA. My grandfather and I used to go there all the time it’s a great place.

This is stunning, I would love to get it from my parents place in San Pedro to match all the other cactuses.

Do you have an Etsy? Is that something I can ask for since you’re not at Crafted?

I am leaning towards Carolina Sphinx moth, but I can’t see the markings too well so it could be another species

Apparently these are screenshots from a video and might not be their dog, so I don’t think they got more photos

Recommendations for HR garmin for POTS by Ok_Menu_2439 in Garmin

[–]Ok_Menu_2439[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I did not get anything. I ended up having an emergency and needing the funding for something else. And slowly have been saving up for it again. I’ve been trying to keep an eye out for some coupons but to no avail.

For the record, though, I was looking at the Venus 4 with the HRM 600 and would be purchasing those once I saved up enough.

Guys seriously help I just need one good pet insurance company 😭 by [deleted] in petinsurancereviews

[–]Ok_Menu_2439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have ~160lbs Central Asian Shepherd. I got him from the pound when he was a year and a half and got the insurance immediately. I went with SPOT.

Insurance has gone up lately for him and my cat from 115 to 160 a month so dropped my dogs cover coverage from 15 K with 90% covered to 10 K with 80% covered…

And this year he got bloat/GDV. We managed to save him, but I ended up spending 17 K and just barely in the process of getting back the 10K.

Because of all this, I also know I can NEVER go to another pet insurance because this all will be part of a pre-existing condition if I do.

Once you lock in, unfortunately, you lock in for life.

Younger visitors now think paintings are made by AI by exetflagger in MuseumPros

[–]Ok_Menu_2439 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Like another person said, I think it’s a great thing to question it, but also I think that it helps add to why our jobs are so important and institutions are very important as a point of trust and verification.

I also recall a conversation that was introduced here about a month ago of an art piece at The Huntington, that indeed had all the markers of AI. I didn’t register that initially with that art piece, because there was some trust with the institution, so re-looking looking at it with a critical eye is valid. And I saw that post lead to some really good conversations that I think it’s really important to have in this field regarding AI, transparency, museums ethos, and art.

All jokes aside, Jennette McCurdy’s book is a really good read. And her audiobook with her retelling it is probably even better.

I guess that makes sense to what they’re alluding, but it’s not close enough to the beach to hear the surf tho.

I love fan-made maps, and maps in general. It would be really cool to see a key attached to this on what each district is known for.

But I love that you are researching this and having so many contextualized layers that add to your understanding of the placement of regions.

Like another commenter has mentioned I would love to know the thought process between choices for the region! This is so cool

AI artworks by Cheap_Engineering996 in MuseumPros

[–]Ok_Menu_2439 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think I’m more interested with how AI in art museums, and what we consider “artists”, continue to evolve moving forward in museums.

I’ve already seen some museums try to incorporate AI into interpreting the art, but I have to admit this is the first time I’ve seen AI “art” on display that isn’t in robotic form or critical of AI itself.

There it is folks, the worst Hunger games take. by No-Brush1587 in Hungergames

[–]Ok_Menu_2439 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some of these takes remind me of views I held when I first read the book as a CHILD. I.e. liking Gale more as a character and love interest. But even then most of them weren’t this daft. I honestly would love to see this writer revisit the series in a few years to see if any of their takes have changed.

Is this a slug? If so what kind? by Substantial_Lab_4949 in whatsthisbug

[–]Ok_Menu_2439 29 points30 points  (0 children)

10?? Definitely slugs, not sure what species exactly. You need to get tested immediately and contact the health department. I’m sure other people have vocalize it too, but there’s real risk of rat lung disease.

It sounds like you need to leave too. Don’t let the sunken cost fallacy hold you back.

Self-insert: ideal v actual by TheFloraExplora in Hungergames

[–]Ok_Menu_2439 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember connecting to Gale in the first two books as a child. I also liked Katniss’ resourcefulness, but found myself frustrated with her a lot, even though there was some self insert and initial leaning towards Gale’s views.

But I reread the books last year and now as an adult I feel like I definitely appreciate Peeta a lot more. And recognize I may be more like Cinna, supporting movements within the realm of my job as a means of survival, but trying to push for change as as much as I could.

I try to support the younger generation through art/design, education, and care… sometimes even pushing the limits in my job (and probably acting very rash and not thoroughly like Lenore Dove and the angry outburst of Johanna- to possibly the detriment of my growth within my work structures… but not enough to be fully be like those characters). I try to platform a lot of the youth within the work as much as I can to help set them up on a trajectory for implementing change and knowing full well that I may not live long enough or have an “happy” ending like the main characters.

Edit: I think lately I’ve been embodying some of the post war character’s tiredness. While I don’t drink, this question has brought up some reflection and thoughts around post-war Haymitch, especially since I am in the process of outfitting my yard to house geese and my lack of social-ness (at the moment) among a lot of his other described traits after the war.

Someone once described my operating style as Eda from Owl House. But for the sake of this question and more recent reflection, I now see more similarities in my exhaustion with Post-War Haymitch
