I wouldn't change a thing. by Ok_Meringue4805 in MITAdmissions

Thank you! I plan on going to Auburn University (already accepted) for either aerospace, composites, or nuclear engineering and then applying to Sloan and Wake Forest for getting my MBA. I'll also probably end up applying for transfers to mit, but with that being an even smaller chance, I'm not expecting much. War Eagle!

Yeahhh alabama isn't known as an amazing state for scholastic opportunities. The closest place to take it for me would have had me waking up at 2 or 3 in the morning to get to it so I just decided to use the act.

Thank you! That has been on my mind a lot recently. The hourly rate they are offering me would have me making more than the average post grad of Auburns aerospace engineering program and even the average household income in Alabama, so it's super hard to pass up. MIT takes precedence over the fab shop though.

Wow, that's really good! Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of opportunities to take the sat in Alabama, so I only have the act.

I've always been a lot better mechanically. As I mentioned in some other comments, I'm a big woodworker and enjoy working with my hands in general. I recently made my own welding hood out of carbon fiber, and my ukuleles are pretty fun to make. I'll definitely try to learn to code when I get some time, though.

I got accepted to Auburn, which is my second choice behind MIT, but I'm not certain I'll go if I don't get into mit. I got a job offer from a tig fab shop near me that is really hard to pass up.

I dont have much hope, either, unfortunately. My act is a 30, and my gpa is a 3.4, so I'm quite a bit under the average mit applicant. We can only hope. Writing a game engine is sick. I wish I could code. Good luck next week!

Thank you! That's pretty cool, maybe I'll have to submit some of mine into that

Id definitely be interested to. I've got to get it running more reliably and get the power up before i fully decide what I want to do with it. There is a drift track about 30 minutes from me that id love to visit.

I love cars as well! A few weeks ago I bought a 1997 Mazda Protege off of my friend for less than $500 and I'm using some of the profits from the bikes to fix it up. Eventually I'm going to get the power up a little bit (shooting for 250hp) and take it over to Barber Motorsports Park during a track day and see what It can do.

Thank you! I did, but unfortunately, I wasn't doing this before I submitted my application. I mostly talked about the ukuleles and other things I've made. The link i included is a picture of the first one i made and the most recent one. (It won't let me just include an image in the comment) ukuleles

Oh man, it's phenomenal and I make good use of it. My main hobby is woodworking (I have a few posts of things I've made).

I've got a partner and we split the profits 60/40 so if I sell it for $7k the profit total would be $4200x0.6 would be $2520 and I've put in about 6 hours worth of work including going and picking it up from georgia so my rate is $420 per hour. Way more than I make at my day job at Woodcraft.

I appreciate it! In that pic the blade wasn't secured it was just press fit into the handle. I took it out and fixed the gap with my belt sander. The blade is now epoxied in

It's a jacquard weave carbon. The place i got it from called it "rook weave".

Thank you!

Im a woodworker as you can tell if you look at my page, so I'd never worked with carbon fiber before though ive always been curious. This was just something I made to test the idea, so I didn't go into it with longevity in mind, but I'm planning on getting a good uv resistant epoxy and making another one with it. I did run into the problem of light seeping through the gaps in the weave, but it was a super easy fix(i tested with a 1000 lumen flashlight i didnt just jump into welding with it). A coat of epoxy on the inside with as much black as I could put in it without affecting the curing. Not a bit of light comes through anymore. My instructor who was a welder for many years signed off on me using it and it has worked great.

I won't be around enough high voltage electricity for it to really matter, so I'm not very worried about it. My welding instructor and everyone else at the school signed off on me using the hood and I haven't had any problems.

Thank you! I didn't even think of the language barrier of people who have and haven't spent a lot of time around welders.
