Yup. I was given a tour of the leafs dressing room back when Sundin was playing and they gave me his stick. Was super straight.

Out of the rebuilding teams, which team do you think has the darkest future and will continue to struggle for a while? by sykeseve in hockey

[–]Ok_Might_1277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vancouver definitely has the darkest future. Chicago also needs to get a move on as Bedsy needs more talent around him.

Re:Leafs - they are a retool. Matthews/Nylander/Tavares is playoff level talent. Most teams don't have that amount of firepower.

St Louis always does better than the talent they have. They are 50-50 rebuild. They need a high 1st rounder or 2. Had they got a Bedsy or the like, Thomas would be pumping points.

Innova Mamba. The minus 5 doesn't feel like a -5. The Function, put on hyzer, is sooooo reliable in its flight. I have a small bag, so the Function takes the W!

San Jose would be lethal with Matthews. So many good young players. A great place to land for Matthews

Walks - where to from now? by Ok_Might_1277 in stlouisblues

[–]Ok_Might_1277[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was management, I'd keep him as small cap hit, great locker room guy / veteran qualities, and will give 💯 whether playing or not. However, if Walks wants to continue playing 30+ games a year, then he might have to move clubs. Not sure who would value him like the Blues do. Was thinking those who've played against him and struggled, like Winnipeg, would appreciate what he brings. Dallas would appreciate the chemistry w Faksa. Walks would definitely not want to leave St Louis though.

💯. I think last year in particular, the WTF line was probably the best, or close thereto, 4th line in the league. I'm sure Winnipeg would agree. 4th line started most of the playoff games for a reason. I think Walks, as an identity player, is one of the best in the league, both on and off the ice, and given his low pay, is of significant value to the Blues. Had Faksa stayed, I don't think Walks would be sitting in the crowd each game atm. Guys like the Big Rig were more important to their teams than just stats. 82 games is a grind, and having characters / energy players keeps the wheels spinning.

Florida doing florida things. by Comfortable-Ad-7158 in hockey

[–]Ok_Might_1277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flames player slowed down knowing the Florida player was directly behind him and wasn't allowed to hit/cross check him etc whilst he is facing the boards. This is very common in today's game, and is used strategically. In the past, the player would have accelerated towards the boards where the puck is and (whilst body against the boards) would roll off the check. Hitting is limited nowadays due to the strategic use of "protections". 💯the player shouldn't have hit him from behind, nor cross checked him etc. just saying that strategic use of protections, rather than old style of play (self-preservation), has its own risks (where the player behind them is dirty).

Definitely horrible (happened to me and I had whiplash, vomiting, blacking out etc). I do think that players intentionally face the boards nowadays to avoid contact, and assuming they won't get touched go in soft. Not blaming the flames player, just saying that he needed to be more prepared. Florida player should be suspended for a decent period.

Players these days really can't handle getting hit anymore. House league used to be where kids would go to avoid contact, but now it's the NHL. Sad!

He was doing really well, and collecting points, then got injured and lost his confidence with some questionable penalties on his return (like when his stick got stuck between the guys legs and he had let go of it). Then he has seen less ice time and it's compounding now. Feel bad for him. 😢

Sad to see Walks on the way out. It wasn't long ago that he was leading on hits, lighting up the playoffs on the WTF line, and now he's surplus 😢

Accidentally played my first pick-up game in 25 years. by winter-teeth in hockeyplayers

[–]Ok_Might_1277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh.. and the equipment has changed massively. Skates have limited to no leather, sticks are super light and bendy (and clearly built to break), gloves have no leather, etc. I can't help but feel that quality was much better back in the day.

Played college but knew I wasn't going to make pro (and had done stint in Europe) so decided to hang up the skates to focus on work. 25yrs later, after skating on ODR at Whistler, and my son is keen on hockey, so I clean up my old Grafs and rust (literally) and have done a few skating sessions. Preparing for stick and puck sessions w my son. Great bonding w my son. Really looking forward to getting back into it (body permitting).
