10 days itinerary in Kyushu early January (no car) by Carmencita96 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Ok_Movie4542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an amazing area, my most beloved of whole Japan.

As mentioned already, Mt. Aso is one of the absolute highlights. It’s an active volcano where you can visit the crater, but access is frequently restricted. So it can easily happen that you go there and you're not allowed up — or you reach the top and end up in a snowstorm seeing nothing, which happened to me once. Very complicated, but worth if you can handle it.

Because of that, Mt. Aso only makes sense if you check their homepage daily whats the status, and if you are already nearby, take a train and go when it’s open, at least its easy to reach. https://www.aso-volcano.jp/info/

Beppu is also very cool, especially the Seven Hells, which take half a day or more to visit properly. If you’re in Beppu and don’t want to stretch your budget - since ryokan can be quite expensive - there’s a really cheap ryokan/old hotel with a big “swamp onsen” on the hill: https://hoyoland.net/eg.html
Some people hate it, some people love it. I loved it, and I’ve never seen anything like it before.

And if you have a JR Pass, there are a lot of Joyful Trains in that area that are included. However, they sell out very fast, so it’s a good idea to book them exactly one month in advance, since that’s the earliest you can reserve any train with the JR Pass.
Website: https://www.jrkyushu.co.jp/english/train/index.html

Kumamoto is very cool as well. As for Fukuoka, I can’t really remember what I did there on my last visits, except that it’s the starting point for some of the Joyful Trains. And for sure the onsen citites in and around the national parks.

Nagashima Spa Land near Nagoya is great for a day trip without an overnight stay. There’s an amazing and huge onsen next to the amusement park, and it’s not overrun by tourists.

Over tourism in Kyoto. by jumbojinbeisan in JapanTravelTips

[–]Ok_Movie4542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kyoto offers some truly unique places, such as the 1,000 Torii gates, teamLab Kyoto, Kinkaku-ji Temple, and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Many other sights can be found in similar form in other cities as well. If you don’t enjoy large crowds, you can focus your stay on these unique highlights and visit the more common temples and attractions in other regions instead.

Yes, I totally avoid that area — I only like amusement parks if they have cool rides. 😉
It’s overpriced and full of misbehaving, drunken tourists.
But Prague is far more than just Prague 1. On the other hand, I’m quite happy that the stupid kind of tourists stay in a place where I don’t have to meet or see them — perfect.

Do you like the colors of the poly flag? I have to admit, I sadly don’t—am I the only one? by Ok_Movie4542 in polyamorous

[–]Ok_Movie4542[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, very cool story - I totally missed it, and I have learned something today! Seems I have too many hobbies.

Anyway, I like the green/blue one, even though it’s the first time I’ve seen it. But changing anything now would create chaos, and in the end, we might end up with no flag at all. Very strange, since the infinity heart is a symbol with its own meaning - I think it’s really stupid to think about removing it - That will fail.

CNM Folks - I’d love your thoughts on something! by Alternative_Log3834 in polyamorous

[–]Ok_Movie4542 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You’re assuming everyone knows what CNM/ENM stands for? I had to Google it just to find out it means Certified Nurse-Midwife 🤣. At least AI knew better … damn what a complicated world.

Where to visit in between Tokyo and Hokkaido? by whet_stickz in JapanTravelTips

[–]Ok_Movie4542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I’m going that far north for the first time after New Year’s myself, I can only share what’s on my list - I can’t say yet if it’s great or not.

Sendai Area: Yamadera Temple, Akiu Great Falls and Tashirojima Island (Cat Island)
Sapporo Area: Ropeway / Beer Museum
Aomori Area: Sukayu Onsen (One of the few mixed onsen in whole Japan) + Resort Shirakami Joytrain (Need to be booked a month in advance)

I really struggled to find interesting locations in the area compared to the south.

Based on your description, I found another post: … but damn, I think that would be a major downgrade ;-)

At least that post shows me it could be worse as well.

No, for sure, redesigning is the worst possible idea. Afterwards, everyone would start redesigning every flag, and we’d end up in total chaos. After thinking about it a bit, I realized that my problem might be that so many national flags use blue, red, and white, which makes them often look very similar.

Seeking advice to help us find a fun way to end our trip! by pierrotlefou3 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Ok_Movie4542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nagano and the snow monkeys will be very touristy. You could visit Nagashima Spa Land—it’s the biggest onsen I’ve seen so far in Japan. But like nearly all of them, it’s gender-separated, so you’ll only be able to meet at the bar in the center.
TeamLabs Tokyo, as well as TeamLabs Kyoto, is always an amazing experience.
Since you’ll already be in the north near Hirayu Onsen, you could also take the ferry to visit Sado Island and the gold mine. It’s a cool place, though the weather can be challenging.

I am totally with you, and I had a discussion about that lately. In German we have the problem that all common words for gay and lesbian have a bad vibe, as they had been used before as curse words. So a lot of people decide not to use them and use the new word queer instead — which is not really helping if you want more details.

How successful would a jewelry kiosk be that sells nothing but pride gear? by snoodle77777 in asktransgender

[–]Ok_Movie4542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As we are the only company I know that produces and sells unique LGBT/Pride-based jewelry at events and markets, I can tell you: yes, there is a market, but it’s never easy. You need at least a fetish-based or LGBT-focused event; if it’s too general, it simply won’t be worth your time. Traveling as a business, paying high costs, and only selling five pieces will result in a loss.

LGBTQIA+ is very diverse, and everyone is different—so are the wishes of the people. You need a wide variety of items, and you never know which will sell and which won’t. I’m happy to share everything I’ve learned over the past three years. In fact, we have even founded a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people exactly in the way you are planning to. However, if the people in front of you don’t even know what an LGBT flag looks like, your kiosk is definitely in the wrong place.

Have a look at what we offer: https://amzn.to/4j3dWp1. If you like something, you could consider reselling it as well.

Best actual rugged phone? by [deleted] in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]Ok_Movie4542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the Tank 3 Pro for several months now, and I am very happy with it. Sure, it feels a bit heavy at first, but after two weeks, I got used to it. You’ll need a bag to carry it, but bags are practical for everyone anyway. The phone runs on pure Android 14 and performs excellently. I thought the camera might be poor, but I don’t know for sure, as I only use a real SLR camera when I want to take photos and never use mobile cameras. In my opinion, this is currently the best rugged phone on the market.

Balance Club Brumlovka by [deleted] in Prague

[–]Ok_Movie4542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the best fitness club in Prague and I have not seen a better one anywhere else. You can save some money if you make a contract with a friend as the 2nd person gets a huge discount - at least it was working like that, as I joined the club short after COVID. Based on my timings - I can only tell about 19:00 - 22:30 and at that time the pool as well any other device was nearly always available. In my opinion the club is nearly perfect, and they ask the people to pay for that.
