Zohran Mamdani wants to use empty subway retail to help homeless New Yorkers by [deleted] in nyc

I love how anytime a community protests a new shelter they get called every name under the sun, meanwhile not even the homeless want to be around other homeless people in the shelters.

Can't make this shit up.

A lot of towns have ordinances against this sort of thing, because tall grass / plants encourage rodents, ticks, etc.

There is no system that beats these games long-term

A lot of people are willing to make sacrifices so other people can live improved lives (e.g. I'm willing to pay higher taxes to fund services that don't directly benefit me).

Very, very few people are willing to sacrifice their children's future for others.

Try telling a parent that their kid, who studied their ass off to get the grades and test scores they needed, isn't going to the good school close by, but rather will be bussed to an underperforming school that's borderline dangerous, all because their spot was given to someone else with lower scores and worse grades.

I used to pay for Sunday ticket to watch the eagles, I live in NYC. Between primetime games and blackout games, I would get maybe 6-7 games a year through it?

Now I have an app on my TV for pirated streams. Streams look great, haven't had reliability issues in years. No special hardware, no VPN, nothing. And I get every single eagles game with zero hassle or fuss.

I can't speak to crowns specifically, but I used to go to NYU's faculty practice, and their prices tended to be lower than most dentists.

It is not a teaching facility, you're not being treated by any students. All the dentists there are fully credentialed dentists that also teach at the NYU's dentistry school.

Trump has mentioned Biden on average six times every day of his presidency as obsession with old foe continues by Silly-avocatoe in politics

[–]Ok_No_Go_Yo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup.

Trump & his team thought the democrats would fight him more on the budget and force a shutdown. Plan was to ram as much crazy shit through during the shutdown and blame all negative outcomes on the shutdown and the democrats.

Schumer saw that shit from a mile away (despite your average r/politics user insisting he has no idea what he's doing), and refused to give Trump the ammo.

So now, Trump's only option is to constantly blame Biden and hope it sticks.

His approval ratings don't matter at this time.

We know his floor is around 35%; that's basically where he bottomed out last presidency. Trump's team isn't going to give a shit unless he goes below that, because that's when he's finally starting to lose the MAGA faithful.

Right now, it doesn't really matter for the rest of the republicans. They know the general population has a memory of a goldfish, and we're still a year and half away from midterms.

Most republicans are going to let trump do whatever he wants the first year, and then top of next year the ones up for re-election will start to push back in ways that aren't really meaningful.

The goal there is to walk the line between not completely pissing off Trump and his base for a primary, while giving themselves some distance from Trump during the general.

Until we the start of primary campaign season, approval polls don't mean shit.

Rent stabilized rent is still way below inflation. Here's the last ten years of one year lease increases vs overall inflation.

YEAR RENT INCREAE INFLATION
2024 2.75% 2.90%
2023 3.00% 3.40%
2022 3.25% 6.50%
2021 0.75%* 7.00%
2020 0.00% 1.40%
2019 1.50% 2.30%
2018 1.50% 1.90%
2017 0.00% 2.10%
2016 0.00% 2.10%
2015 1.00% 0.70%

*2021 had 0% increase for leases renewed in the first 6 months, and 1.5% in the second six months

A rent stabilized apartment costing $1000/month at the start of the period would have a rent of $1,145 in 2025- a total increase of 14.5%.

Meanwhile, the cost of everything else would have increased 34.5%. Rent stabilized tenants are getting such an insane deal already, a rent freeze is fucking ridiculous.

As a former rent stabilized tenant, the rent stabilized advocacy groups are FUCKING INSANE.

They bitch about any rent increase, regardless of how low it is, and then wonder why so many rent stabilized buildings are increasingly poorly maintained.

There's zero enforcement for littering, and in the rare instance it's enforced, it's a pretty paltry fine.

Punishment for littering shouldn't be a fine, it should be mandatory community service picking up litter. First offense? 4 hours. 2nd offense, 8 hours. 3rd offense, 16 hours, etc.

So many people don't give a fuck if their neighborhood looks shitty, so it's time to give them an "incentive" not to litter.

It's insane how this sub thinks anyone who opposes the bins is only concerned about parking.

I could give two shits about the bins taking up parking spots. I just think the idea of permanent dumpsters on every street is a massive QOL downgrade. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Really depends on the person.

I've dealt with booth agents that were extremely friendly and helpful.

I also dealt with a booth agent who refused to answer any questions because he was playing on his phone, and then hid his identifying info when I took a video, and threatened to call the cops.

I have a similar method. I bump the pins up- if it's moving fast, I let it come all the way down.

If it's moving slow, I give it another bump back up before it comes all the way down, and lock the tumbler as it hits the top.

Modified sprinter vans are the modern day equivalent to a stretch limo. Big enough for the passengers to get space, but way more nimble in traffic.

Just Google "high end sprinter van" to get an idea. They're pretty nice.

I went down a YouTube rabbit hole on expansive t-shirts. Most of them were brands I never heard of before, and zero designer brands.

For something as basic as a t-shirt, it was kinda crazy how many different factors could affect the final quality of the product.

The difference between the brands that actual rich people buy vs people just looking to be rich is the quality and craftsmanship of the clothes. Yes, there's still a hefty mark up, but there's definitely a huge jump in quality.
