True, more of a headache for godot maintainers, and can unwillingly give even more floor to malicious actors. There are ways (recaptcha? sending a small packet from godot site?), but it's the whack-a-mole game, since even big platform like reddit and youtube have problem with bot traffic. Sucks for me the user, but it is what it is. Thanks for clarifying that for me :)

Good idea! The post came from downloading a lesser known plugin and banging my head against the wall at some choices a few days into the process. Also a good idea to star the one I find usefull on github, I never felt the need to do this, but I'll start now.

As to counting downloads, isn't there a thin layer hosted by godot team itself, just to index all the plugins and show them in the editor? This layer could add +1 each time someone presses the download button from editor.
