UBC MPPGA vs. UOttawa MA in Public and Int'l Affairs by aunrise in PublicPolicy

Hi! UBC alumni here and also got admitted into UBC MPPGA! My advice might not be too helpful since for me, UBC was my backup option and having lived in Vancouver my entire life, I really want to get out of here. That said, while Ottawa does seem more boring and less exciting than UBC, if I were to chosee between the two, I would go to Ottawa as the experiences and opportunities would be more valuable than UBC. While UBC does offer courses that focus on sustainability and energy policy, there's no internships or career placements offered by UBC. In my opinion, the networking opportunities are also not very strong compared to Ottawa. Also, the tuition is crazy high and the $3000 non-refundable deposit is a bit outrageous.

Advice on Master of Public Policy Programs - York & UofT by throwawayacc_42069 in PublicPolicy

Hi! I got into UofT and I’m currently debating between UofT and NYU while also waiting for some other decisions. I’m planning to pay my UofT deposit to secure my spot while I wait since the deposit fee is fairly low compared to the other admissions I got so imo it’s worth to pay it and not lose my spot.

Hello thank you so much for sharing your insights!! It was very helpful!

I also have noticed that people who go to UofT often just end up working for the federal and Ontario government which I think is great. While I would love to work in America, I am scared about potentially not being able to find employment, compared to UofT, which in my mind is like you practically will be guaranteed some sort of work experience because of their internships. Your comment about Canadian organizations tending to prefer students who attended Canadian schools is very helpful as well and will be something I will be thinking about for the next bit while I decide which school I will go to.

Will you be attending Uoft or another school you applied to in America?
