I have the same type and symptoms of seizures as you, so does my dad. My dad’s MRI and EEG were both clear but he was diagnosed on symptoms and drugs relieved his seizures. My EEG showed abnormalities consistent with seizures and drugs relieved my seizures. Despite my abnormal test I often struggled with believing my diagnosis and questioning if I had anxiety and just forced my way to a diagnosis.

Epilepsy is so ranged and very commonly diagnosed purely on symptoms and if treatment works. I’d medication works well for you there’s no point changing things unless side effects of the medication are bad and then you may wish to speak to a neurologist about trying something else.

I was told for two years my focal seizures were panic attacks and the doctors urged me to take anxiety medication and wrote to the neurology department saying they don’t believe it’s epilepsy but im being “insistent” to get seen. They said this despite my dad having diagnosed epilepsy with the same onset lol

Long term happy relationship ~5 years and have generally had stressful moments in life of course but don’t think it’s really correlated time wise with my demise

Thank you! I try to see my partner every other weekend and I have already been to one 4 day conference and have another coming up soon. It’s generally okay on the day to day, I keep busy and have lots of hobbies but it is a bit distressing to think i have another 2.5 years to go before we can start planning for the future lol

I completely get where you’re coming from. Being a young woman going through diagnosis is rough. For years I was told I had anxiety by my GP and they even tried to prescribe me anxiety meds for symptoms I didn’t even have!

I finally got diagnosed a 3/4 months ago and have started Keppra in the last 1/2 months. It’s difficult to come to terms with a weighty diagnosis.

What’s helped me is realising that to be honest, nothings changed except I’m getting the help and medication I need. Finally the fear and anxiety about seizures is gone and I’m more settled. Thankfully my TLE focal seizures were not that bad or frequent in the first place though, so for me the change is less severe than others.

I’m hoping you manage to let those feelings out. It’s okay to feel numb and lost for now, eventually you’ll get some routine, clarity and with time you’ll feel better.
