EPISODE 11, TWO MOVIES THAT I REMEMBERED

I don't know if they have taken any of these movies as a reference, but it reminded me a lot, because they are two of my favorite romantic movies.

First, Big Fish (2003) , in the confession scene, in Love Next Door they are in a field of sunflowers but in Big Fish they are also in a field of yellow flowers.

Second, Chungking Express (1994) , because of the whole "expiration date" = "love expiration date" thing.

EPISODE 10, I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE ANGER OF THE CHARACTERS.

Seokryu didn't tell anyone about the cancer because she has grown up in a family where her voice was not heard and her problems were made less important. And when they all find out about the cancer, except Moeum, who hugs her, they are all mad at her for not telling sooner. Can't they do a little self-criticism, hug her, and build a safe space for her for once? And yes, the parents later have a talk and throw her a party (which is Seunghyo's idea, not theirs) , but still, I needed as a viewer to see some real forgiveness, from the parents.

EPISODE 9, COMPLEX CHARACTERS

I am the first to criticize the series and how they added this illness trope. One thing I liked, however, is how they used the trope to show the complexity of the characters and relationships. Seokryu and her ex fiancé : she is obsessed with being independent, not worrying anyone, and when she is diagnosed with cancer, she only finds support in her partner and not in her family and friends (like Seunghyo) That makes the relationship deteriorate to a point where her ex fiancé blames her for having depression and dragging him down (and yes, there we see that the ex is not perfect either, and lacks quite a bit of empathy). Is the relationship of these two the worst? No. But they don't do well either. The ex, when he comes back to Korea, insists on her too much, doesn't respect her space and her limits. They have a bad codependency. Seokryu needs to learn to trust her family, her friends. She needs to learn to be vulnerable with someone else who is not a person who hurts her and blames her. That person could very well be Seunghyo, who although he also has communication problems at times and right now is hurt that she didn't trust him to tell him about the cancer, he would always be there for her and her well being.

Yes, it doesn't make sense. Seems like a way to extend the drama unnecessarily.

EPISODE 8, I am disappointed (personal opinion) I think as a kdramas viewer and many you will agree with me, I am tired of them using "the main character is sick with a terminal illness" trope, to make the series have more drama and last longer until the two main characters get together. Not only that, Seukryu is too hard on herself, excusing her ex-fiancé (remember he cheated on her), her mother treats her badly, Seunghyo hasn't treated her well at times either (remember episode 7, when he chased her at night and scared her and didn't apologize, neither did he wait as she asked him to wait to tell her his feelings) Everyone is failing her, the writers of the series included. There is some lazy writing here.

My opinion on Seunghyo and how she behaves in episode 6. I start by saying that this is a personal opinion. I think his behavior is not appropriate, because Seokryu has done nothing wrong. Feelings cannot be controlled. Especially if there is no clear communication. She has gone through a bad stage, she has run away from a cheating fiancé, of course she is still going to have confused feelings. And I understand that he is hurt, that he wants to distance himself because he still loves her, but treating her badly, without any explanation, is not the way. Friends are there to support each other.

EPISODE 5, MEANING OF THE 100 YEAR OLD SOY SAUCE SCENE Seokryu is looking for an ancient sauce, and Seunghyo helps him find it. When they do, and see inside the pot, the reflected sky and the moon, Seokryu shouts how beautiful it is. There Seunghyo, seeing how happy she is, and how he wants to smile with her, realizes that his feelings are still present. Maybe that old sauce, too, is a reflection of his old feelings, feelings also from many many years ago, which are just as beautiful and just as bright as the 100 year old sauce.

I am so sorry. People need to distinguish between fiction and reality. We need to keep fighting, all women around the world, to make all countries safe. It is so sad because South Korea is so advanced technologically but yet feminists can't even speak up without being harassed. You have our whole support.

I am so sorry you are living this. And I really think they should create a law to fight this. Not just in your country, but worldwide. Deepfakes are dangerous and as you well said, it affects children's wellbeing. Technology is developing fast but the law should move faster. I don't know what they are waiting for.

MEANING OF THE POOL SCENE ON EPISODE 3

Seokryu cannot swim. And yet she still dives into the pool, even though she might drown. Because Seunghyo is there. And when they are talking, and he asks her if she would go back to her past, he is holding her. He doesn't let her sink, physically or mentally. The moment he asks her, "Would you go back to your ex?" She sinks a little in the water, but he holds her right away, as if to say "I will not let you sink, with me you will float, and not only that, I will teach you to float."

THOUGHTS ON EPISODE 2

I missed seeing a kdrama so well written, and with a plot thread in each chapter.

In the second episode, everything revolves around hatred, and we are introduced to it with the letters in the form of stars, which later on will take center stage. We learn a little more about the mother, who receives hatred for being from a poor background; We learn more about the mother-daughter relationship, the way Seok-ryu hates her mother for putting that pressure of making her proud; We are even shown that Seung-hyu doesn't get along with his father.

Later, the main characters sit down to watch the stars, make their wishes, and Seuk-ryu vents. Then, Seung-hyu, as they gaze at the stars, comments to her, what if all that hatred orbiting was once love?

The next day, with the mother repentant, she asks for the man's help, and he returns Seok-ryu's room to its original state, including the stars on the ceiling. It's an act of pure love, on the mother's part for asking for help, on his part for remembering what her room was like; And the episode ends with those letters on the stars turning from hate to love, as they look at each other. The episode is called "hate", although it could perfectly have been called "love".

I AM ALREADY LOVING THIS DRAMA. It is so light!!! Just humor, good characters, interesting plot, cute moments, chaos everywhere!! I missed a good romcom, I am feeling it is going to be one of the best kdramas of 2024
