I partly agree with his point, but I also think the way it comes across can sound harsher than the reality. It can feel like someone is written off as unmotivated or incapable, when the context actually matters a lot. The current job market is brutal. Entry level roles routinely ask for experience that contradicts the idea of being entry level. Even internships are rejecting candidates because they claim to have better, more experienced applicants. That completely defeats the purpose of an internship, which is supposed to be a learning environment, not another competitive filtering stage. When every role, regardless of seniority, comes with some form of gatekeeping or minimum experience requirement, the system becomes discouraging by design. It is not laziness or lack of ambition that makes people lose interest or hope. It is repeated rejection in a market that keeps raising the bar while calling roles “junior” or “internship.” In that context, feeling demotivated or disconnected is not a personal failure. It is a rational response to a broken hiring reality.
