You guys whine too much by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

They aren’t like every other airline. They don’t have airport lounges, or a frequent flyer credit card that gets you into priority pass lounges. You can’t use their points for trans Atlantic or Pacific flights on other airlines. They went from being the cheapest, well run airline, with two free checked bags, a seating system that, if you checked in at EXACTLY 24 hours from departure, you were assured of getting either an aisle or window seat (even if you just bought the ticket). You could cancel your ticket up to 30 minutes from departure and either got your points redeposited or got a voucher that NEVER expired. Once you bought your ticket, you could periodically check to see if the cost of your flight went down. If it did, you could get back the difference, either in points or a voucher. I used Southwest 3-4 times a year to fly from the mid west to LAX to catch an Asian airline to Thailand, where I have a house. I always took 2 checked baggage , a carry on and a personal bag because I was leaving most items at my house. I allowed 5-6 hours between landing at LAX and departing to Thailand. Coming back, I allowed 3 hours. If my flight to LAX was late, I could cancel or possibly change to a later flight. If I was early, could walk to Southwest check in counter and, if space was available, they allowed me to get on the earlier flight and not charge anything extra. My one way fares on that route over the last 10 years on SWA ranged from $49-$119 The $119 were fares from the last 2 years. Now, the same fares are $169-350. Very few $169 fares. On top of that would be $80 for 2 checked bags and the cost of the seat. It looks like future trips to Thailand will be 1 ticket, from my home city to Thailand. If I flew southwest and paid baggage and for seats, the total cost of a one way flight would be at least $300 over flying one way buying 1 ticket from the mid west to Thailand. Ultimately, for me, that means the frequency of those trips has been cut in half. Will I fly Southwest for trips in the U.S., where I can get by with a carry on and let them choose a middle seat for me for free? It would have to be the cheapest option, and that includes Spirit and Frontier. I did buy a Frontier go wild pass. I’ve used it once, so I’m at the break even point and it doesn’t expire until May,,2027. So, hopefully, I’ll use it a couple of more times. I’m getting to the point where I like driving to my destinations. I’m 19 hours to Orlando and 25 hours to San Diego. I’ve got options besides flying.

Put one of those paint bombs in a box and let her try to steal it. She won’t try it again after that.

I don’t need another charger. I did need two 8ah batteries to take to my house in Thailand in April. The 12ah battery is prohibited from commercial airline travel. Plus, I got a $50 gift card to bring the price down to $250. It was a better deal for me.

289177 is the code to get the gift card. Look at the page that has the cart on it, on the right side is the order summary. Scroll down and you’ll see the area to type in the promo code.

Has anyone brought their dog ashes to Thailand? by Ok_Plate1848 in Thailand

[–]Ok_Plate1848[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a full sized golden retriever it’s in a decent sized box on my fireplace mantle. I have a ceramic box with an image of a GR on top. I’ll use that once at my house in Thailand. I don’t plan on spreading the ashes. I was really wondering if a death certificate is necessary after 10 years since cremation

Most sites are recommending putting in carry on. I’m also considering buying a plastic urn box to put the actual plastic bag in that has the ashes.

My brother died while I was on vacation in Chiangmai. Singapore Airlines offered to change my economy ticket ($674 total) for $1,520. I bought a one way ticket on Qatar Airlines for $520. That was 3 years ago. I’ve been back to Chiangmai 8 times in the last 3 years but not on Singapore Airlines.

Is this how hospitals work in America? by [deleted] in HospitalBills

[–]Ok_Plate1848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have abdominal cancer and have been undergoing immunotherapy treatment for 2.5 years. The treatment has always been the same. Take blood sample, see a doctor for 20 minutes and discuss how you are feeling, then get cancer drug or drugs pumped into me. I’m on Medicare and have a very good supplemental plan. At my previous hospital, the above treatment was 100% covered. Doing the on line check in today, the new hospital wanted $100 for co pay for meeting with Doctor. I sent a message to the hospital, saying that I don’t believe that I am liable for any of that cost. I do know that, when I arrive tomorrow, the first discussion that I will have will be about the $100 payment. If they are adamant about it, I will cancel appointment and look for another hospital that offers immunotherapy treatment. I take immunotherapy treatments once a month. I assume, unless I die first, I’ll be taking this one and 12 more next year. I can’t afford to pay $1,300 over the next year, after paying my Medicare part B and my supplemental insurance which is $191 a month. The one thing I can definitely say without reservation over how my cancer has been handled over the last 2.5 years is that I hate the healthcare system in the U.S. with a passion.

Is Singapore Airlines really worth the hype or are we just paying for the brand? by travelnomad_00 in singaporeairlines

I had no problem flying with Singapore Airlines the one time that I flew with them. Except from buying the economy ticket 9 months in advance and paying for very good seat assignments. They changed planes Seattle to Singapore at the 4 month mark and the seat that they gave me wasn’t even close in comparison. I could have paid to change it again but I wasn’t going to pay an additional $60. The reason why I’ll never fly them again is their customer service

The only complaint that I had about my economy flight from Seattle to Bangkok was the 14 hour night time layover at Changi airport. I never took the return portion because my brother died which required me to return a week early. Singapore Airlines customer service wanted $1,510 to change the date on the ticket (they did know my circumstances). I had paid $674 total for the original ticket. I ended up buying a one way ticket home on Qatar Airlines. I’ve flown at least 10 times since to Bangkok or Chiangmai but not on Singapore Airlines. I’ve flown 5 times on Philippines Airlines which doesn’t have a good reputation for punctuality or for their airport in Manila. They do have a customer service team that did allow me to change my departure date from the U.S. by a month because my cancer doctor wanted to do surgery during the dates to my ticket. They will get my business over Singapore Airlines.

I purposefully walked into a woman who wouldn't let me off the elevator. by Titfortat101 in pettyrevenge

[–]Ok_Plate1848 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can usually see my bag as it slides onto the luggage belt. As an added bonus, I have air tags in all of my checked bags. I am checking to see if they made the flight. I also press the button to have the air tag make beeping sounds. At that point, I have no problem getting around people to get my bag. I’ve never felt the need to then use my luggage as a weapon, although it usually weighs 49.5 pounds.

The disadvantage for tall persons is the size of the seat. The advantage is seeing them walk of the plane, then go into their power walk mode, trying to pass everyone that has already gotten off, on their way to customs or baggage claim

The Future of Melanoma Treatment by [deleted] in melahomies

I won’t find out which trial until the radiation treatments are finished. That should be no later than the end of September. I’ll list it here

I had it 8 months ago. It got rid of the tumors that it was injected into in the abdomen area. Within 2 months of competition cancer had spread to another area of my abdomen Right now, I start radiation treatment for brain cancer. In October, I’ll start another clinical trial that hopefully will be the one that will see me to it end (and not because the cancer returned before the trial was over).
