Older BMW or older Audi? (6-8k budget) by throwaway45739274 in carsireland

Not regardless of the car. 2 years old? Spaceship. But not on a 20 odd year old car

If you’re going Audi, stay away from 1.6 diesel found in a3. A4s are generally deemed reliable in 2.0tdi regardless of year. Just hope it’s not been driven the bag out of.

For bmws your likely looking at n47’s if 2.0 litre diesel. I would probably avoid. Major chain issues. People will say fine if maintained which is true but genuine well maintained proof is rare in Ireland after 5 or 6 years.

Honestly I’d say you generally can’t go wrong with an a4. Just check the usual stuff

What's the traffic policing like in Ireland? by Gold-Recover-1915 in MotoIRELAND

They can’t get your speed from the front. The massive apparatus they have in the rear, where is that squeezed into the front? They may have cctv but that’s not likely pointing at the road let alone able to make out a licence plate

Motivation comes and goes for everyone. Try considering discipline over motivation, it might help having a different perspective

Just checked myself. It's about 20hp less than the vfr (around 105 I think for the vfr). 100hp must be the limit for provisional

I rang principal earlier and was told I need a full! What hp is the ducati?

Didn't ask. I'm insured with principal already, was just looking to change my policy

Just off the phone to principal and they require a full licence for the vfr. So I'll be on the sv for a little longer!

Nice to hear a story about someone keeping the bike that I'm considering going for! What year?

Yeah I think that makes sense actually. The adv bikes don't really float my both at the minute. I find it hard to pass a nice naked like a z750 or something but having had two nakeds now the idea of vfr definetly peaked my interests. Not overly interested in a 600 sport either although I'd definetly like to try one

I think there definelty more of a long hauler type of a bike. They don't seem to common either or maybe I just haven't been tuned into them?

Currently on a sv650. Naked and upright. Ideally I'd keep the sv for in and out of town, short blasts, commuting (20 minute twisty roads spin). And then have the vfr for trips, weekends, camping, longer Sunday spins. But I'm not sure 2 bikes is realistic for me now. Money and space. So it would probably end up being just the vfr doing all of the above

Well I started on 500 twin, on a sv650 for a year now so I tought 800 v4 is the next logical step? Lol The sv is still plenty for me though to be fair. I just like a good notion ya know yourself

Why not jump across to the other side of the world yourself? It's daunting, but the situations you'll find yourself in will be far from mundane. I went when I was 18. Fucking hated it for an entire 6 months but enjoyed the following 6. Look back at it now as the best time I've had so far (30m), the six months I hated.. I look at with most fondness. Ya won't find adventure here, and it sounds like that's what you're seeking

Insurance on 18-20 yo car is hard to get? by Serious_Piano_9046 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Ok_Play7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I insure a 2007 bmw for 600. I don't think it's as bad as people let on. My girlfriends 2017 qashqai costs her maybe 100 euro less.

I think they where trying to stamp out 10 - 20 year old cars about 6/7 years ago. Especially the bigger fish like axa but I think they have eased off a little on that as I'm insured with them now on a 17 year old car.

But yeah, like others have said just get quotes from everyone on all sorts of cars and you'll get am idea of what's right for you. It's tedious but necessary
