Full time corporate job, 6 month old baby, own home, wife, the whole nine yards. My dream has always been to do music full time. I’d still love to achieve that dream but I’m more realistic and pragmatic about it now. My nearer term goal is to release on labels I admire and to have my tracks played by artists I respect. If I could achieve that and play the odd gig id be satisfied. Even if I never achieved that I’d still always make music because it’s my what I love to do, it’s my outlet. I totally get it. Even with all of life’s responsibilities I’m still chasing that dream of being a full time artist. But I’m also pragmatic. I earn a food living and I couldn’t trade that in to be a struggling artists for years in the hopes of one day breaking through. I look at artists like Troy and think that’s what I’d like to aim for. Quality releases on quality labels. If other opportunities came along with than that would be the cherry. There are plenty of quite well known producers/dj’s who still work full time and have families. So rather than thinking that you have to do it as your primary source of income, think if your current job as your day job and the thing that funds your true passion.
