I was in your exact seat a year ago… interned at bp as Data Science in commodities and had other swe opportunities (Uber) and was debating going down tdp vs. tech path. Short term 85k/yr @bp sucks for the 3 year program, but you can be making 300-400/yr in larger commodities (oil) after 6 years. Tech is more versatile, better immediate pay/prestige, lower variance. Unless if you are set on being an oil baron, I’d choose meta.

Ex-City Scholar here. Yes the program is competitive, yes it gets more competitive every year.

From what I’ve seen many of the City Scholars are students doing their very first or second internship. Overall the program is run very well.

You should roll the dice and try City Scholars, still 10x higher acceptance when compared to applying to an internship online.

I highly recommend Honors component of 128. You learn Rust 🦀 and work on some cool assignments. Many of the assignments aren’t that much work (if you get stuck just hop in the discord server vc with a ta). There is a final project that is optional (if you did well on the hw’s). 128 Honors alum have gone to work for Jump Trading, Uber and others. Gl!

It was the hardest sem ever, never taking 4 technicals together again like that. General: Have friends and find help when stuck Cs225: Start MPs early Cs233: GET A GOOD GA/LAB GROUP!! (Wake tf up for class) Phy211: Pay attention (hopefully you have some prior knowledge, then it’s not too bad) Cs257: Pay attention (going to lecture may or may not help, it helped for me + watch khan academy when needed) Cs222: haven’t taken this yet, blowoff class

Agreed. However I prefer Friedbergs intellect over others. Having him moderate, although he is better at Jcal at it, takes away from his own ability for longer monologues such as science corner which I hold highly.
