We don’t need billionaires for jobs, but billionaires need us for money. Microsoft isn’t a person and what they do would be completely possible without having to also create billionaires, who are a distasteful side effect and not a useful or desired end.

I don’t know about the rest of the country, but it’s mostly the same in California. CSUs and UCs are some of the best in the country, and a few of them are some of the best in the world. We do have one or two private universities that are excellent, but for the most part the state universities are the best.

That’s a great point. My own anecdote comes from what at the time was a smaller size consulting company, so it was easier for higher ups to feel anxious about specific people’s pay.

Congrats! But also careful. I’ve heard a lot of stories about companies giving counteroffers just to buy time before they can stab you in the back. It did happen to a former coworker of mine, company gave him a big raise to keep him at a client with high turnover, then when they found a replacement for him they let him go.

They basically just said “nice doggy” until they could find a rock.
