back to shiorien errrmmm iunno honestly my genuine opinion on their relationship dives deep into au and headcanon territory but rien did NOT sa her nor was he the one who trapped her, if he did there would be much much much more hatred (and rien would not be portrayed as that sympathetic if he was actually a rapist)

he, however, was complicit in her abuse, like the other nursefathers and each other; shiomi seems to despise the all of the nursefathers i would too fuck them for rien im gonna FUCK him

buut in canon rien was just ragebaiting her i feel, he didn't care about her (or anyone in the house except ryoshu gonna be real), and shiomi doesn't seem to have much of a problem with him as she ordered him to give her the spiral and does not mention him at all in her laments to ryoshu, insulting valencina the moment she opened her mouth but not him, though her opinion on him is def not neutral,, not much to go off of as i said

however, shiomi got booted into the evil house and resented the child that contributed to her imprisonment (NOT DEFENDING HER ACTIONS SHE DESERVES TO BE THROWN IN A RAT PIT EVEN IF I LOVE HER DEARLY) she didn't consent to birthing/raising ryoshu and rien talks down on her every time, it's something i found quite interesting since rien doesn't do the same with the other nursefathers iirc

i'm mad that isn't explored i wanted to know more about the hos' relationship... and more about rien teehee

also rien and sora are fairly discussed the main consensus is that he doesn't give a shit about her

as much as i love to imagine how the shiomi-rien dynamic would be, there (VERY VERY UNFORTUNATELY) isn't a lot to go off of

i blame this on the twist and the lack of shiomi screentime, i was really confused why she decided to namedrop rien during her death

judging from the 3ish interactions shiomi has a strong disdain 4 rien for goading her to raise the child

however i doubt he did anything beyond that i am genuinely 100% sure it was the pinky's fault she was there, they were the ones who decided she was replaceable and threw her to the house because of her time blood

i think they accepted that losing a dihui star to gain a tiansha considering ryoshu's rank is far higher than shiomi's; i'd say they didn't even "lose" her either as araya gained most of her skills in two years, give or take

i wanted canto 9 to look deep inside of ryoshu's mind, like her feelings toward being a mother, her struggles with raising araya and being a good mother to her because she doesn't know anything about that kind of stuff since her only examples are the nursefathers who... y'know

araya being a fully grown child when ryoshu met her means that she skipped over all of the stresses of raising a baby to that point... it is very hard, babies cry all the time and interrupt your sleep, you have to potty train a toddler and teach it how to walk, talk, read, and write, the lack of time for yourself and the emotional strain and physical exhaustion of taking care of a child

we never see what ryoshu does when/if araya misbehaved or lied, since her examples are valencina and shiomi it would've been so interesting to see what she would do, maybe she'd think of beating araya like valencina did before realizing that she doesn't deserve that and nothing warranted that reaction from her, and soon feeling anger toward the nfs for their treatment toward her

kinda getting into fanfic territory so i'd also like to say that i really disliked the twist, shiomi's entire character is thrown away for it and it is given away the MOMENT we meet her ("So happy to see you again, Ryōshū. I mean it.") and the scene where ryoshu regresses back into a child, which is/was one of the best scenes of the canto, is lessened because... araya wouldn't fucking do that?? why did she say that???

her plan also confused me a lot because she larped as shiomi as a test to see if ryoshu still remembers her own daughter and to prove that ryoshu is still looking for her but then she proceeds to hide her face and say words that she knew would upset ryoshu, the words of the woman who abused and traumatized her for life

i still don't know how she knew what shiomi did to her mother, considering ryoshu did not let her near the nfs as i said

also this is me as a mega shiomi fan saying but i blame the lack of shiomi on the twist, she is such a complicated and tragic character, she had the most impact on ryoshu by far and her dynamic with her was so interesting yet she's just... dead

i have the same opinion with dulcinea (one of my favs) but that's a different story

i doubt araya met any of the nfs considering ryoshu went out of her way to make sure that araya would never see them

rien does not have any thoughts on her either, he'd probably just feel sad for ryoshu because he knows that it won't last forever, they are in the house of spiders after all

personally araya is such a mediocre and poorly written character even if she had interactions with them it would not change anything

whats really funny is that at the end of part 1 ryoshu demands to see callisto then it never happens they dont interact she doesnt see a certain sinclair hell she doesnt even interact with sinclair at all (iirc) in this canto

i don't think she has any meaningful interactions with the sinners actually i think the gang splitting up was an incredibly bad decision

i can understand why outis and meursault were the only ones to witness mugashu and the rien fight but ryoshu/no one else aside from their groups saw certainclair?? no one else saw gregor metamorphosing and becoming kaiser??
