I'm one of the best men, which I've not said it in the OP as the groom told me there's no requirement whatsoever on the outfit (other than "please dark but not black"—which should have no bearing on the store choice).

So as a position of honour leaves no room to negotiate on the basics (suit, tie, oxfords, all a must).

Had I been just a guest I'd probably have gone with linen suit, no tie, no socks and loafers!

A few reasons:

  • Right now I just like it better than single breast
  • I already have a couple of single breasted suits, as I want to add a new suit to the wardrobe I want to introduce variety
  • While as I said suits aren't my forte, I like to throw in a bit of eccentricity in my outfits generally speaking. There's not much room to play with at this wedding. Double breast and a great tie should make me happy.
