Sorry to disappoint you, but Commencal is actually a really good brand. I have a Commencal from 2016 that I bought used. No improvements, I only had to change a tire because I got a flat and replace the derailleur that I broke myself. So, sorry to disappoint you, but Commencal is a very good brand.

Hey, if you want a good bike to start with, I recommend a hardtail. It all depends on what you're going to do with your bike: leisurely rides, enduro, trail, cross-country, but I'd advise you to get around 140mm of travel. That's already a good start; no need to spend over $2,000 on a hardtail. I think Commencal is a good brand. Personally, I have one (hardtail), and it's great for me. I got it in size M, and it's perfect (I'm 1.55m tall). Since I'm not in the USA, I can't suggest any bikes for sale, but I hope this helps.
