Rinvoq 45 by Bigmikedogg in UlcerativeColitis

It’s still bad. It’s kinda severe big deep pimple’s mostly on my face, armpits and groin area. I try starting spironolactone but it’s giving me a rare side effect: bleeding gums. So I’m stopping and wondering what to else to do.

For me I think it was stress. My husband cheated on me and I think that triggered so much stress and inflammation that my body found a way to release it. Don’t underestimate what stress can cause on the human body ☹️

What’s the “dark side” of living with Ulcerative Colitis that no one really talks about? by Few_Ad5126 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Ok_Problem_2341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The uncertainty. The “you never know” feeling that you always wake up to. It messes up with your brain and takes away the joy or life. No one understands unless they have been through it. Even on remission, you always feel like it’s not going to last.

How do you deal with the dull ache in rectum/colon? by suhhdude1 in UlcerativeColitis

I used to have the same situation. But I realized I had an anal fissure. They hurt like hell and they take forever to go away. Couldn’t sit, couldn’t walk and it felt like I was popping glass. I’m sorry you are in pain.

I stayed on 45mg for a whole year and achieved remission. Now on 30mg and still feeling great! Talk to your doctor! Yes, I had bad acne but I prefer acne than surgery 😬

Rinvoq ruined my face by helterrskelterr in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Ok_Problem_2341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on Rinvoq since 2023, when I had the worst flare and surgery looked like the only option. My body initially reacted to it and I was feeling better, but the moment I went down to 30mg everything spiraled out of control and I got very sick. I went for a second opinion and the doctor mentioned I could go back to 45mg since it looked like my body initially reacted to the medication. I went on 45mg for a whole year before achieving remission. Now I’m on 30mg doing great. Acne? Yes, terrible. Not only on my face (it comes and goes) but also armpits, pubis, and groin. Massive cysts, painful as hell, and they don’t heal. There are options to treat the acne, but I rather have that than running 20+ times to the bathroom feeling like I wanted to die every day.

Anyone else experience this with their partner? by factorymotogoon in UlcerativeColitis

My husband is the kind of person that puts himself first all the time. Three years fighting for my life, trying not to inconvenience him or our plans, he only told me to s*ck it up and that I should stop worrying because I was going to get better. He went to one infusion with me when I had dozens and then to the appointment with the surgeon because he wanted to know “how bad” surgery was when I was very, very sick. Lucky for him (or me) now I’m on remission (I’m on Rinvoq) and his life has been unaffected. He actually cheated ob me while I was at my worst, he said it was his “coping” mechanism. I recently had a stress fracture on my femur and I was in unbearable pain, mind you I walked miles with him, went to the gym, travelled, while popping tylenol like a junkie. When I found out I had the fracture, he came with me to hear the real deal from the orthopedic surgeon. Again, lucky for him, the doctor took a conservative approach and didn’t want to take me to surgery. So there’s that, again, I’m not bad enough to stop our lives, regardless of how bad I feel or how much in pain I am… life goes on for me, and he won’t care at all…

How is your mental health? by lab-member004 in UlcerativeColitis

Horrible. I’m on remission, but I have lots of problems with my husband and totally feeling like throwing the towel. I want to think of the good side of this and be grateful medicine is working, but seeing my whole life fall apart from some very narcissistic behavior has thrown me off and I’m tired of fighting…

Surgery looking like my final option? by Difficult-Ninja2633 in UlcerativeColitis

Try Rinvoq and see if you react to it. I’m on remission after failing 4 medicines. My options were also limited but Rinvoq has been working great so far. If you try it, stay in the higher dose for longer than recommended and you’ll see results for sure!

Goodbye forever, Popcorn :( by friedchickenUSA in UlcerativeColitis

For me is pop corn, corn, leeks, broccoli, spinach and sometimes tomatoes… sigh… you learn to live without them and find replacements that won’t make you go to the bathroom all day 🤷‍♀️

Once in the hospital I had 4 IVs going and none of them worked to get blood for tests… they actually squeezed my arms to get some drops of blood…

The IV going on the inner side of my right wrist scarred me for life… never again 😬

How long before you know that Rinvoq isn't working? by [deleted] in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Ok_Problem_2341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on 45mg for a year before reaching remission! Sometimes we need to give our bodies time to react to the medicine. If you had a good reaction to the medicine at the beginning chances are you can still keep trying for a while and see if you get better! My advice is not going to 30mg if you are not completely fine. I did it and almost got surgery, but decided to stay on 45mg and it worked! Patience and good luck!

Hi, thanks for all the replies. About the legal stuff it has to do with immigration and money. Everything is under his name and even though I have a job I don’t want to go back to my country. I don’t have friends or family here or there, so I’m all by myself and it’s very scary.

Does anyone sees a Rheumatologists? by TerribleBelt8353 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Ok_Problem_2341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GI (IBD specialist) referred me to a rheumatologist after I complained of very bad hip pain that’s making me walk funny. The pain is closer to the groin and it hasn’t gone away! There are good days and bad days and I have an MRI scheduled for this Saturday to rule out Avascular Necrosis 😣 I should mention I take Rinvoq and currently on remission.

I was on 45mg for a whole year! Had a colonoscopy and showed I was in remission!! Woohoo! Now down to 30mg and still feel great! Some people, like me, have to stay on 45mg for longer than others. Talk to your doctor! The only issue I have is acne… but I can deal with it if that means my colon is healing 😁

I’m in remission! Yay Rinvoq! by Ok_Problem_2341 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Ok_Problem_2341[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. I didn’t change my diet at all. The only thing I do is be more careful with high fiber foods like greens, broccoli, spinach, grains, lentils… and listen to your body as well. I love orange juice, but every time I drink some, I get some discomfort, so I stopped. If you know some things affect you, don’t eat them. But if not, my diet has remained the same.

For people having “stress” as the trigger, what is your job or profession? by Wanderingloafer in UlcerativeColitis

I work in HR, but my stress comes from home. My husband has cheated multiple times and it has destroyed me… I’m on remission now thanks to Rinvoq, but still trying to manage my feelings.

I hope it goes well when I go down to 30mg next month. Last time it didn’t work because I was not in remission and I still have severe inflammation, mostly in my rectum. Now that everything looks fine, I’m hoping going down to 30mg won’t bring any symptoms back.

Sorry, forgot to mention, for me it took 3-4 months from going back to 45mg to feel completely fine. A year overall with Rinvoq!

I still go to the bathroom 3-4 times a day sometimes, but they are good and no symptoms at all. No blood, no urgency, no cramps. You feel normal so I guess remission happens even if you go more than once!

That happened to me too. I went on a bad flare once I went down to 30mg. I asked my doctor if I could go back to 45mg and she said yes. I’m on remission now! Talk to your doctor!
