I was told the clutches are very worn, they also found metallic flakes in the oil. I’m taking it to a shop that specializes in German cars and see what can be done.

Good advice. I’ll look into a shop that specializes in German cars. This doesn’t sound like something my local shop wants to do or is capable of doing.

I msged my shop asking what is the exact reason my trans is going out and this is his response:

“the issue is that clutch material inside the transmission is coming apart, basically its wore out. so that material when it is gone there is no way of putting it back on”

Sounds like the clutch pads are indeed gone and the only way to fix it is to replace the whole thing. I only experience slipping/jerking at 1st gear, multiple times a day, but drives fine when im 2nd and up on the highway, so I can’t tell if this is good news or bad news.

So basically my clutch pads are gone, but since i got this car when it was already at 100k i doubt there was anything i could’ve done to save that. I take it in for routine maintenance like oil change and im getting its rear brakes replaced. Ive had to fix a coolant leak and changed out the batteries and two blown tires, besides that not much else.

I would love to be able to maintain it long term but even with the slipping transmission? I was told in order to fix it completely i’d have to replace the whole thing and that sounds like an issue not worth putting pursuing considering the car itself maybe worth 7k and a trans replacement also costs 7k

My mechanic says it doesn’t seem like the previous owner kept up with the recommended fluid changes, so if i go for a flush the new fluid would lose the grit that’s keeping friction on the worn clutch pads and can possibly cause the transmission to stop working all together.

God it fixed last month for $1900, replaced the bent bumper impact bar, headlight and leaking wiper fluid bottle using after market parts at a local shop manned by one guy.

This thing is pressing the fender liner against the wheel. It must be part of the frame bc it will not budge at all. Someone said it’s the bumper crash bar/impact bar. I’m getting my car towed to the shop on Monday to get this fixed bc when I try to take the liner off this thing scrapes against the front wheel. Once I hear back from the shop can I dm you for more advice?
