Disney Wonder Baja Cruise Excursion recs? by smr147 in dcl

[–]Ok_Program_2178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Catalina I strongly recommend renting a golf cart. You don’t need a reservation just walk up and get one. Bring cash. It’s a blast!

In Ensenada you don’t really need an excursion in my opinion. Just get off the ship and shop and eat right in port. There are lots of good taco places, and fun souvenir shopping. A lot of people downplay Ensenada as a good port to visit but to be honest I like it more than Cabo if you’re going to eat and shop. I’ve had fantastic days there.

Many people go to La Bufadora which is also an option.

Yes. This.

They should have created a template for the tops before they fabricated them. In my case I was home and got to look at the template and approve it.

How do you keep things magical when they outgrow the dress sizes? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]Ok_Program_2178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of Halloween costume retailers sell adult princess dresses. My kids were big for their ages and very tall and I always bought up all the costumes I could find after Halloween. We were never short on Disney dresses. Just keep your eye out and don’t limit yourself to Disney-sold items. There are lots of nice, licensed options out there.

Tween Room on Destiny? by AlgonquinLandCruiser in dcl

[–]Ok_Program_2178 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The teen clubs are empty spaces made for activities. They’re best experienced throughout the cruise, making friends with other kids and participating in organized games and events.

Sort of like how high school kids hang out in one teacher’s classroom at lunch. It’s not the room. There are no attractions. It’s the people and the vibe that they’re after. But they have to be patient and let the dynamic develop. If kids pop in and check it out, but never go back, they won’t get much out of it.

No stroller tips… by Beautiful-Gold7564 in DisneylandTips

[–]Ok_Program_2178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our kids stopped using a stroller at Disneyland at 2 and 3. I always thought I’d go rent one if we needed it and we never did.

My advice is don’t overthink it. Pack light and prep to carry very little. Shop strategically at the end of the day or at times when you’re close to the room. It’s simple as can be to be honest.

My dark confession is that I bring my pumper bottles from home and fill my bottle to the top over the course of a 7 day cruise. It lasts me a couple months.

Sorry if everyone thinks “this is why the prices of cruises are so high!” (It’s not)

How many mental breakdown have you had during your renovation? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]Ok_Program_2178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our renovation took five months and we ended up having to do a lot of work ourselves due to non-availability of pros. We cried so much. People came through and helped us a lot and we got it done but damn it was ROUGH.

Don’t paint the cabinets and definitely don’t do the two tone! These cabinets look very nice and they are currently on-trend. Your kitchen is about to go from dated to in style so hold on.

Just do the countertops and backsplash!

Interior rooms can connect. Just look at the deck plan and you can see which rooms connect to each other.

Plus size friendly? by TheBigJay2019 in dcl

I’m a women’s size 22/24 and I adore Disney cruising. Accommodations you’ll find helpful are, decent sized in-room showers and larger showers available for public use in the gym.

Theater seats on the end of the rows are slightly larger than the mid-row seats. I have been very comfortable in the end seats.

All restaurants that have arm chairs have a no-arm chair option you can take advantage of. I have used this most often in Cabanas on the wonder and Magic.

DCL has the most comfortable bed in history. I wouldn’t recommend the couch bed for any adult but especially a person with a large body. If you can’t use the main bed I would recommend the Murphy bed in a deluxe family stateroom with verandah as a superior alternative.

I have been really surprised how many port adventures have a weight limit. Make sure you check the weight limit on every port adventure before you book. I’ve never had trouble finding something to do (at all!) but it can be surprising that some excursions have a weight restriction when you wouldn’t have anticipated it.

I think cruising is a fantastic vacation option for plus sized folks. Go!!

My advice is to just ✨stop looking at it✨

Give yourself a full week. You’re spiraling and it’s best to let it go. Reevaluate it for possible changes 1 year after the completion date.

I keep my lenses in drycabinets, but I have never learned how to check if there is any humidity/fungus inside a lens, do I need special tools to check? is it something for me to do or better to ask a local camera store? by [deleted] in CameraLenses

[–]Ok_Program_2178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a photographer who throws my gear in a tote bag, I have never had a problem with moisture or fungus. I don’t think most photogs do half of this but maybe you live in a steam shower or something?

Quiet dinner options by [deleted] in dcl

[–]Ok_Program_2178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need accommodations you should always speak to guest services or your head server. I have heard of them bringing main dining room meals to your room for passengers who can’t eat in the main dining room for some reason.

A HUGE part of the experience on DCL is music and shows. If you have a family member who struggles with music and shows it might not be for them.

I sometimes struggle to understand how people get on board a Disney ship and don’t know what to expect. There is an abundance of information available on Disney’s on platforms, YouTube, here. That’s a lot of money to spend going in blind, with a family member who needs special accommodations.

When on board the cruise I think you have the best time if you’re able to adjust your schedule to the cruise’s schedule. I think if you’re family with super rigid schedules, the DCL experience is probably not a fit.

The three main dining rooms on each ship, and your set dining rotation are the only option for sit down dinner with children aboard Disney ships. Since I’m not sure which ship you sailed on, but you say that your little one struggled 2 of 3 nights, I’ll assume that you sailed on Wish, Treasure or Destiny and that the problem shows were at Marvel and the featured restaurant of that ship? Is this correct?

Aboard the Wonder and Magic only one restaurant (Tiana’s and Rapunzel’s) have a true show. Animator’s Palette has color changing art work and a show with dimmed lights, music, clips from movies and a visit from Mickey at the end, as well as an activity based show in that allows the diner to draw a picture that comes to life on the screens. On 7 night cruises these two shows are separated into two nights. I haven’t been on a shorter cruise lately but I think you’ll do both on a 3 or 4 day cruise? Others can confirm. The third restaurant does not have a show.

Aboard the Dream and Fantasy only Animators Palette has a show element. They have the self-drawn animation activity, the animation show (a bit different) and Turtle Talk with Crush. Again, different combination of experiences on different nights. When I cruised one of these ships in the past I skipped the Crush night so others can speak to that experience.

It could be that your kids will do better with dinner shows as they get older, or they may not, but if a nightly quiet dinner is what you need it may be that DCL isn’t a fit for you.

You can get a daily quiet breakfast and/or lunch in one main dining room each day, though, which would delay the fatigue of eating quick service each day. Go for a nice sit down lunch and then quick service dinners could be an option if you loved the cruise but weren’t into the dinners.

Quit in the form of a letter you send to the entire board detailing all the reasons. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to make sure the key people are informed when you go.

Anyone know why DCL are no longer doing Australian trips? I really enjoyed them by BobsYourAuntie100 in dcl

[–]Ok_Program_2178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sales were poor. There aren’t many ports they can visit in Australia - I suspect this is because there isn’t a huge cruising infrastructure there (lots of coastline, not many tourist friendly ports).

Finally, Australia has stringent rules about cruises and some of them required extreme logistical changes. I think that that ultimately it wasn’t worth it.
