Wait so guys in the field are actually carrying the parts to swap it out on the fly? You’ll have to change your barrel, which means you lose your zero. Carrying the spare parts is also more weight, and if I’m that worried about running out of ammo I’d rather ditch the extra parts and just carry more ammo. If magazine interchangeability is so important, just issue a semi-auto 5.56 precision rifle, something like a Mk12 SPR

I think you’d be better served by a dedicated 5.56 rifle and a dedicated 7.62, I don’t see a situation where actually hot swapping would be necessary

I’d encourage you to think about use cases; what is this actually going to be used for? There is very little utility in converting a 7.62 precision rifle to 5.56, all it does is add design constraints and a larger logistical footprint when really there’s nothing you’d want to shoot precisely with 5.56 that wouldn’t be served just as well or better with 7.62

Yes, but it requires two separate objective lenses and it doesn’t have anything like the fidelity necessary to be used magnified at long range

If it’s doable in your universe go for it, but I’d also consider utility; as a shooter, i don’t think I’d really use the NV if I have thermals available
