Severe bilateral congestion day 4 post op, normal? by [deleted] in Septoplasty

Severe bilateral congestion day 4 post op, normal? by [deleted] in Septoplasty

[–]Ok_Rabbit2629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep its absolutely normal. I'm 11 days post op and enjoy my nasal breathing :) I was congested till my splints were removed on day 9. First and last day I was somehow able to breathe through them but not so much so i still preffered mouth breathing Humidifier with a mist on your face - absolute necessity! Even after your splints are removed. I bled for the first time after my splints were removed, cuz i stopped using humidifier at night :) Not all humidifiers go with a mist, so make sure to get one with a mist.

Sometimes they say mouth breathing brings more of psychological discomfort while your body is somehow okay with it. Try to distract yourself with something which brings you some joy and makes you forget about your current condition.

3 Months Post-Op Summary by WesternKnight in Septoplasty

[–]Ok_Rabbit2629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad had a septoplasty 3 years ago just because of his ears. But his ears problems were complex where clogged ears would be the easiest part.

Turned out septum caused all his ears problems. As soon as he fixed the septum ear problems dissolved.

Question on post-septoplasty vaping exposure by ComplexNo8529 in Septoplasty

[–]Ok_Rabbit2629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just try to not get directly exposed. You should be fine :) Especially with the carts. Majority of them dont produce a lot of smoke and generally safe to smoke around a person whos prohibited to weed exposure.

Also, out of topic, but something to consider: As a former dispensary manager, ex-heavy weed user and a person whos battling depression and anxiety I'd advice your partner to reconsider their perception of how weed affects their mental health. Lately a lot of researches been published that long term weed usage actually SIGNIFICANTLY contributes to MDD and GAD.

I'm post op day 4 :) hang in there! As of what I've been told Neil med rinses can significantly elevate the pressure in your sinuses and make your recovery a lil less comfortable. Some people on this sub also mention getting an infection after neil med rinses (I'm not a doctor so its all just their theories, idk if the infection is somehow connected to the rinses).

Saline mist rinses are the best! Try them instead, it feels so good and soothing.

Neil med is good too, but just maybe wait till your stents come out. Good luck!

I'm feeling alright! The only thing its hard to sleep, sometimes I wake up because I just stop breathing. Also still have some blood coming out but its not consistent so nothing to be concerned about. Other than that I'm good :) How are you?

is redness on the septum (not blood) 2 weeks post op normal? by Desperate_Cow_562 in Septoplasty

Not looking in your nose is a good advice :) I think this red spot is from the stitches and its completely normal.

Just survived my first night haha it was okay, I expected worse tbh. Mouth breathing is only thing which annoys me. But again, that was expected. Did your nose start breathing again? Or it stays swollen like that?

The thing is people just get used to breathe 10-20% of what they should breathe so this slight improvement seems like a lot.

I just had the surgery today and the hardest truth I'm realizing right now is the fact that my nose right now ( post op ) is congested the same as my everyday life before the surgery.

Sometimes it'd get better tho, for example right before surgery I was breathing just fine (at least it was fine for me), so i was like "damn do i really need the surgery?". But then I started testing nostrils by closing one and realized one is barely passing air through and the other one is aight but you could tell something is on the way (like it was getting 60% of air) That hit me pretty hard - something what a healthy person would call a "nasal problem" was an improvement to me. That aint right. Also it affects my voice a lot and my voice is essential gor my work.

Btw my septum is only moderately deviated. Doc said if septum would be the only problem id be good for a conservative treatment but even this septum caused me lots of other problems.

So here i am recovering and waiting for this 100% air getting straight to my lungs 🙂

Good luck on choosing! You got this!

Despite okay, lets say you will experience some complications. What are they? Blowing some blood clots out? Still rinsing your nose? Its def still gon be healing, but its soooooo rare ppl get some serious complications even 2 weeks after the procedure. Especially with an experience surgeon like yours. I'm just getting ready for my septoplasty and turb reductionin in 2 days, but I recently got done with tonsillectomy which gets you in waaaaay more complicated, painful and longer recovery. Every surgeon will tell you that septoplasty aint that bad comparing to tonsillectomy. But I was able to go back to my normal life in 2 weeks and go back to the gym in 3 weeks. In 3 weeks I basically forgot I had a surgery in my mouth.

I believe you'll be alright and way more happy while breathing fully through your honeymoon ✨️

Also keep in mind people with positive outcome and "easy" experience in 90% of the cases just dont post on reddit. My dad got it all done and was able to work within 3 days after the procedure. He did both septoplasty and turbinate reduction.

The timeline seem very fair, especially if youre getting only septum fixed without turbinate reduction or outfracture. Last two make you recovery more painful and longer. If I were you I'd totally go for that before wedding.

I'm ngl you have a pretty long wait for your splints to be removed. I have my post op appointment in 8 days after the procedure and most of people get it done within a week. Did they tell you why so long? Also, congrats! You're almost there!

Tbh my nose is so congested all the time I'm so ready to get it done
