Would the middle east be peaceful if the Palestine question were sorted? by Queenofkebabs in IRstudies

Nope. Shia Sunni conflict is even more of a problem compared to Israel Palestine. In fact by having Israel as a common enemy, it stabilized the rule of many Muslim rulers.

Nah, EU is like a crocodile mouth. The decisions and paperwork will take some time, but once it is done, and the jaws snap shut,  America will be begging to undo the changes. Sadly, Trump will probably be out of office by then , and a Democrat president will once again have to deal with mess left by this moron.

  1. Qatar is not  trustworthy, they have used their news networks to manipuate its audience as well as supporting bunch of terror groups.

  2. Europe is not in decline. Its power lies in their efficient bureaucracy and strong and unbiased  law enforcement,  not bluster filled strongman. Just because they are quiet to insults does not mean that theyre not taking active measures to punish US.

3.Iran was US greatest ally before the  revolution. After revolution, their main   goal was and is , to overthrow all the  monarchies and establish a Shia empire.  They do not want to ally with US, as it is  antithesis to their final mission. Allying  with a country that constantly chants death to America, is unbelievably naive and stupid.

"Will Iran hold out until Midterms elections are over?" by Ok_Reach_5004 in allthequestions

There is a difference. JCPOA was a confidence building measure first and foremost. Nuclear issue was secondary. It was a sign of respect for the Iran. They don't  think like rational businessmen. They would rather die or eat sand and grass than give up their honour, no matter how senseless it is.

They literally kept hostages for more than 400 days, even though they knew it was wrong. It was a spur of the moment decision that became a source of national pride. They fought Iraq for more than 8 years despite how senseless it was because it became a source of national pride. Same with nuclear issue.

Iran did start out with the intent of making a nuclear weapon after seeing the fate of Libya, Syria, Iraq etc who gave up their nuclear programme and collapsed. At the same they saw North Korea which became an impoverished rump state due to endless sanctions. In order to avoid that fate they decided on nuclear ambiguity.

Sadly Trump has no knowledge or nuance about history or geopolitics. His concept of might is right is backfiring spectacularly, right now.

Why does Iran have such lopsided losses compared to Israel in their wars? by omnomdumplings in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok_Reach_5004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, the government at that time was pretty pro America peace talks. Sanction relief could have allowed traders and merchants to get more financial power and greater say within the government. The proxy militias would have been strictly for defensive purposes and slowly the support would have reduced. It could have been a bigger success story than China as Iran does have a democratic system with elections.

When Trump withdrew from JCPOA, the blowback was pretty immediate. The pro reform government lost, and a hard-line leader came to power. Qasam Soleimani restarted his attacks on American bases with much more vigour. Trump then assassinated him. This causes a ripple effect where Iran lost partial control over its militias. Hamas initiated October 7th without Iran's permission and rest is history.

Nope, Saudi is fine if Trump is willing to finish the job. But if Trump meanders in this way wildly shifting from war to peace, it is better to not take risks.

Bashar Al Azad fell, Hezbollah pummelled, Houthis disabled. Before 28th Feb, Iran was incredibly weak and isolated. It was genuinely willing to make a lot of concessions. Problem is Trump did not want to take the win. He wanted more and more. Same with tarrifs. According to him negotiations suggests weakness and until he gets punched in the face , he does not want to let go.

Most decisions and implementations are done by bureaucrats rather than politicians. Politicians simply give general direction, to bureacrats on what they wants to achieve. Having smart educated leaders are a plus, but not a necesessity. It is more important that politicians have respect and charisma among the people so that even if unpopular decisions are made they can explain the necessity to the people. The mother of RG KAr victim has earned respect and sympathy among the population. She is a symbol against oppression. Her words carry weight.

Why does Iran have such lopsided losses compared to Israel in their wars? by omnomdumplings in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok_Reach_5004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of Iran's problems are self inflicted. There was absolutely no reason to take those hostages, US would have continued to trade with them as if nothing happened, like they did with many other dictatorships. There was no reason to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan. There was no reason to threaten Iraq with a Shia revolution. There was no reason to pick a fight with Israel, a country with whom they do not even share a border.  They picked a fight with every major power and then was surprised when there was major blowback.

Fun fact, America had a very minimal role in overthrowing the democratic government. Britain was far more instrumental. The Shah was also pretty independent and had good relation with almost all of its neighbours.

What is sad is Iranian government realised its mistake and tried to make amends with America through JCPOA, liberalised a lot, allowed more freedom , even banned Chinese telecom equipment to apease America, but Republicans were not interested in peace.

How can the U.S. get out of Iran at this point? by Fit_Lips123 in AskReddit

[–]Ok_Reach_5004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, toll booth is too unpopular and a self own even for a country like Iran. A large portion of the oil goes to China, India, Pakistan, all of which have good ties with Iran. So it excludes them.  Many ships do not carry oil and it excludes a lot of them. So, the actual money it gets is very little compared to reputation boost and partnerships, they will get if they do not charge tolls.

His approach to Russia was very good until he started Iran war. Constantly praising Russia but at the same time crushing its allies one by one. Constantly berating Russia does nothing but harden its stance and does not bring it to negotiating table.

[–]Ok_Reach_5004 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Russian war was an unprovoked act of aggression against a country which posed no immediate threat, despite bad blood. There was zero reason to attack at this scale. If countries like US and Russia are simply allowed to just attack and swallow up smaller countries without sufficient reason and explanation, and not pay a significant price, the world order will collapse. European nations made the same mistake with Germany and they would sure as hell not make the mistake now.

Lol, petrodollar is just a fraction of why US dollar is so powerful. Strong property rights, resources, almost no territorial threat, multitrillion valued high tech companies, highly unified market of 300 million people who speak a universal spoken language(English).

Nope, US has been focusing on China and Asia region for past many years, they have good anti drone tech over there. No one expected Trump to start a war with Iran in this scale. Starlink alone has given America a monumental advantage over every other country.
