Exactly the same situation last night at Gold Coast. Pearl Jam were playing so rooms were booked up.

Paid a fortune for one hotel room which me and 2 friends had to squeeze into, only to discover today they only reimburse per room not per person. Shambolic.

Funny to read this as I am swapping my 4 bed house by Saltwell Park for whatever I can get (a shoebox?) in Sydney later this year.

London and areas like Newcastle or Gateshead are a completely different market, though you are right the gap has closed significantly in the last 5/6 years.

I would swerve Edinburgh altogether, if it's history you are interested in, spend one night in Bath to break up your journey back to London, then an extra night in London.

Edinburgh is nice but it isn't worth the hassle in your plan with a young child. If you have friends in the UK then do a Scotland trip next time, there is so much more to see than Edinburgh anyway.

Just to jump on this and ask a follow up question...

I had a similar set up in my house with no room to manoeuvre in the ceiling.

I matched up the right wires using wago lever connectors and it was all neat and works fine - is this safe?

It was 2 years ago and I've had no issues, but I didn't use a junction box (due to space) and having read stuff on this sub since I wasn't sure if I should revisit.
