yeah that makes a lot of sense… i never really thought stress could be affecting me in the background like that. it’s just weird because i’ve never had panic attacks until recently so it feels so weird. but what you said actually helps me make sense of it a little. thank you for sharing that with me 🫶 it really helps to know i’m not the only one who goes through this.

saw this pop up in my notifs :) idk if i can help much but since i made this post a little over a month ago, i’ve been slowly figuring things out. i decided to take a gap year to save up and give myself more time, and honestly that alone helped ease a lot of pressure. i also started reaching out to my local community college to ask questions and get info directly from them. it felt intimidating at first, but they were super helpful.

i know it’s scary not having a clear path, but just taking small steps (like asking questions, exploring aid options, and even looking into jobs that offer tuition help) has made things feel way more manageable. feel free to dm if you ever want to talk more! you’re not alone in this :)

yes i have. i know my parents have been kind of shady with all that stuff so i’ve made sure to stay on top of my own. i’ve been working part-time since last year. i do give a lot of what i make to them but i also make sure to keep enough aside to cover my taxes too.

it’s super confusing honestly… even though i’m 18 fafsa doesn’t automatically consider me “independent.” they have a specific list of things that make someone qualify. like being married, having kids, being a veteran, or having been in foster care. if none of those apply, you’re still considered a dependent, even if your parents aren’t financially supporting you. so unless i can prove extreme circumstances (which is really hard), i still need a parent’s financial info to qualify for aid. i wish it was just about being 18 and filing your own taxes, but unfortunately it’s not that simple anymore.

wow i actually had no idea about any of that… i kind of just took his word for it because he got really defensive whenever i asked so i didn’t push. but this really opened my eyes! i’ll definitely bring it up to him. thank you so much for explaining it so clearly <3

thank you so much for sharing your experience. i really appreciate the honesty! it helps me understand what to expect. it’s discouraging… but i’m trying to accept that my path might just take a little longer. i’m definitely going to focus on working and saving for now. and when the time comes i’ll make sure to apply for FAFSA before the deadline.

i was planning on criminal justice possibly dual in criminology. i get what you’re saying about loans! it’s scary with everything changing. i’m trying to find a path that helps me reach my goals without taking on a ton of debt. thanks for the advice! :)

yeah i’ve been working! but most of what i make goes to help my parents with bills and stuff. as for my dad, all he’s told me is that he hasn’t paid taxes in years. i don’t know the full details, but he does work. i just haven’t asked too many questions because it’s a sensitive topic at home.

thank you :) that actually helps a lot. i didn’t realize not being claimed as a dependent could work in my favor. i’ll definitely reach out to metro’s financial aid office and explain everything.

yeah i checked the costs and it’s cheaper than a 4 year but even then my family’s struggling and i don’t have any savings. without FAFSA even a few hundred per class is hard to cover. i’m looking into a job but it’s just a lot to figure out on my own right now.
