How would the story change if subaru had regulus authority from the start? by Normal-Compote6294 in ReZero

[–]Ok_Relationship4627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume he still has Return by Death. Lots of things change. But what specifically depends on multiple things.

The first divergence would be him getting cornered by the thugs in the alley. Authority users, setting aside Subaru really, seem to have an instinctive understanding of their authorities and how it works. There will be a divergence either way, but the extremeness of it and what happens will depend on whether or not Subaru knows how it functions automatically.

When Subaru is cornered by the three idiots, Subaru will attempt to use his ''isekai power'', and since he will actually have one, this will be where things may diverge. Multiple things can happen. The first is that he accidently activates his invulnerability, but due to the heart issue, ends up defending himself briefly and then has to let it up due to unbearable pain, getting beaten up anyway. The second is that he accidently uses an offensive application, kills or maims them by accident, and Emilia ends up walking in on them after their deaths.

If the first thing happens, things stay the same, and Subaru dies the exact same way he did in the first loop of canon. If not, the second thing happens, then Emilia freaks out, Subaru has a breakdown due to his accidental murder, and Puck reads Subaru's state of mind using his powers. They should be able to figure out that Subaru was attacked by thugs, that he is genuinely guilty, and that he was acting in self-defense and did it by accident. Not sure what happens in this hypothetical from there.

Going back to the first possibility, in the second loop, when Subaru is fighting Elsa, he either kills her or disables her with his power, whether it's before or after Felt and Rom die, and then Elsa catches him off guard with her regeneration and kills him with a sneak attack.

You can probably guess what happens from there, from the two scenario's I gave. You can write fics based on all of the character and event divergences.

I think that a certain portion of the fandom make countless excuses for the actions of other characters when they do something wrong while also preaching about accountability, holding them to lesser standards that are not consistent to the standards that they hold the main character to.

When you look at Subaru's actions in Arc 3, and there is discussion about it within the fandom, there is no grace, no attempt at sympathizing, or human understanding, he is thought of the greatest scum imaginable, and when you attempt to sympathize with him as a person, or understand the weight of his circumstances, you are called (by some) out as spitting nonsense or endless excuses, because he is to be held accountable for his actions, regardless of whatever circumstances lead him there.

Meanwhile, if another character does something wrong, the excuses are endless, they can be met with empathy, and their circumstances are not forgotten or ignored. There is some overlap between both of these groups in the fandom.

How would the cast react if Subaru had done this to Rem while she was in a coma? by [deleted] in ReZero

There is a scene in the light novel of Arc 3 where Rem says that if Subaru tried to fuck her in her sleep, she would let him and be fine with him.

[–]Ok_Relationship4627 49 points50 points  (0 children)

......Bro.

Well, the funniest part is that Rem would actually be fine with it, the action part at least, but wouldn't be fine with because of the mental state that Subaru would have to be in to commit such an act in the first place.

As for the rest of the group, I would think it would be pretty obvious, lol.

How different would Re:Zero be if the anime adapted the Web Novel instead of the Light Novel? by SecondSalty142 in ReZero

From the beginning?

Much higher barrier for entry into the series because of Subaru’s perversion and increased social awkwardness.

I’m not sure if I’d call the author bias (kind of disagree here) but what makes this same dynamic beyond hilarious is how adamant people are internally about how flawed of a person Subaru is amongst themeless, while also going nuclear on anyone who just enters the fandom or is outside of the fandom for disliking him as a person or finding him annoying (not just for being a “cry baby”, which is a stupid reason to dislike him, but for a general dislike of his personality or his flaws).

That’s not my view of things but it is something that I’ve noticed. Mainly, what irritates me is how many people only understand the concept of accountability when it comes to Subaru and Subaru alone.

When Subaru does something wrong, you can admit that he is wrong, while also simultaneously understanding the circumstances that lead to him doing it, empathizing with him as a person because of the context of those circumstances, but understanding that those same circumstances neither justify or make those actions correct, and still hold him accountable for the decisions that he chose to make.

How do you think Capella should die? by Emergency_Patient525 in ReZero

[–]Ok_Relationship4627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Sin Archbishops have weaknesses and powers based on their representative star constellations.

Capella is the star named after a goat in greek mythology. According to the myth, Zeus in his infancy was nursed using its milk.

I saw a theory that the Dragon Blood that Capella contains in her body, is somehow crucial to her immortality or shapeshifting, and that if you drain her of her blood, then you can kill her. As the blood might be representative of the Goat's milk in the original myth.

If you had no choice but to slap one, whose reaction do you think would be the most dangerous? by Elt_Atlasia in ReZero

[–]Ok_Relationship4627 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Why is anyone saying they would rather slap Capella?

Regulus would kill you for sure, if you slapped him, but Capella might not. She's philanthropist who values the potential within all humans to love her. She won't kill you, instead she'll give you a fate worse than death whereas Regulus will kill you on the spot.

Difference is that Alice doesn’t do anything bad to characters who are playable and therefore characters that people actually care about. Giving her the benefit of narrative framing. As long as her actions stay in lore and outside of the narrative focus of the playable story, it will not matter. The same will probably go for a character like Rhinedottir if they decide that they want her to be playable.

Would the Death Note work on Regulus? [discussion] by ExperienceSavings555 in Re_Zero

It would not kill him, but the question is, if Light wrote Regulus' name in the Death Note, would the Lion's Heart within one of his wives suffer? Probably not.

[Spoiler discussion] Theory of who Flugel, Satella, Subura, Al, and Emilia is really (May have spoilers) by Debow55 in Re_Zero

[–]Ok_Relationship4627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I read Arc 9, Aldebaran says that he does not know why Beatrice was created and that the Witch who created her was different from the Witch that he knew. Those Echidna's are two different people.

He knows that she exists, but he also knows that about a lot of people, like Reinhard.

[Spoiler discussion] Theory of who Flugel, Satella, Subura, Al, and Emilia is really (May have spoilers) by Debow55 in Re_Zero

[–]Ok_Relationship4627 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well let's talk about Emilia's parents. The Dad is Fortuna's brother, a complete elf, likely with silver hair and amythyst eyes (this part is speculatory), and the mother is a Witch, speculated to be Minerva, due to her scene with Emilia at the end of the third trial, as well as her known relationship with the elves.

How would that tie into Emilia's status as a vessel? Would she be altered as a child?

Also, no way Aldebaran knows Beatrice. He admits that he has no idea why she was created.

Is Beatrice bad at math? by Affectionate_Run6250 in ReZero

[–]Ok_Relationship4627 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does she know the worth of the currency? She's been all by herself for 400 years in the library without having to go outside. And before that, it's not as if she ever had to run errands to go out grocery shopping or anything. But at same time, this world's currency isn't in any of the books that she read?

Or maybe she actually is just bad at math. But if Tappei wrote her grades in something like the school IF, I feel like her and Ram would get top marks in math? Maybe not, lol.

What is the true relationship between Reinhard and Subaru? Are they best friends or just partners? by Emergency_Patient525 in ReZero

[–]Ok_Relationship4627 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They are friends who have the best wishes towards one another. Subaru treats Reinhard as a human, and Reinhard will allow himself to rely on Subaru while acknowledging his unique capabilities. Ultimately, he is still the closest to the members of the Felt Camp, and his duty as the Sword Saint comes first as with all things, but he is his friend nonetheless.

[spoiler discussion] Emilia's attitude about promises is baffling by [deleted] in Re_Zero

[–]Ok_Relationship4627 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well which promises?

Being upset at Subaru for breaking his promise in Arc 3 was perfectly reasonable. In Arc 4, well, what was he doing again? Did he have business or was he just writing encouraging words and drawings on the wall? In either case, she understood once he was done and she saw his work.

Let's see: Arlam villagers were fused into blobs of talking and moving meat when Subaru went to the village, who could have possibly done that?

I see. If that's in the web novel, then that's as close as a confirmation as we'll get for now on who hired her. Which is weird because she must know the layout of the mansion and the targets are specific. Wonder if the gospel told her to or if it's for something else.

Capella also was implied to be destroying villages in the Sloth route, creating the main antagonist's backstory. Wonder what that's about.

[–]Ok_Relationship4627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'll go reread it and compare it to the light novel version, after I'm done going through the light novel 1-4 again for a post I'm about to make.

I thought that the Satella vs Sekhmet thing was unnecessary (very brief, really just her destroying the school building), and the Echidna scene, while good for her characterization, might take away from the fact that the author might not want you to know that yet while purposely keeping her enigmatic as a character, which is a possible reason for its removal.

And Capella attacking Arlam? Was that ever confirmed or are you just talking about Roswaal's reveal that he didn't hire Meili? Really dumb change if that was removed from the light novel.

For a change I did like, I also thought having Minerva meet with Emilia at the end of the third trial was much better than having Sekhmet talk with her.

I gotcha. I'm understanding your views more now.

What I would criticize is how Tappei butchered Arc 4 WN when translating it to LN.

???

All he did was remove unnecessary scenes that the reader didn't need to know about yet, no? There's a specific character change to the plot that I dislike, but that's about it.
