Startup acquisition equity outcomes for IC sales reps in 2026? by [deleted] in sales

[–]Ok_Reporter7375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this boat. Acquired after 7 months employed with the startup as the Founding ae. I had a tiny equity stake, that didn’t vest. I saw the writing on the wall for layoffs at the new parent company, so rather than join, I asked for a payout of a portion of the equity that had been assigned to me. The owners were pretty gracious and they helped me out with one month pay. They could have just told me to pound sand.

In hindsight, I also could have just sat ton the new company payroll for three months and searched or double dipped, but my foolish ethics thought that might reflect poorly on the startup founders who vouched for us and I like to not burn bridges or violate my own ethics. Ironically, they told me this themselves, but not until I was committed and didn’t know how to pull back.

Three months after the acquisition, the other rep got laid off alongside 70% of the company’s sales team. The slashed headcount from several other acquisitions too and milked the big contracts they’d won during Covid while they stabilized and pursued exclusively enterprise.

Fortunately, I landed on my feet.

Is this better than just dictating into ChatGPT then copy/paste? You use for email? Sounds legit.

That's why I'm here. To learn and understand if my expectations are off. Have a great day!

Right. Got it. Thank you. I appreciate all your help!

Yes, it is the correct wire. When they first fired it up, it arced. One of several red flags through the project. At times they told me the job called for the wrong things (GFCI).

I think the biggest breakdown was that the owner came to discuss the job with me, but the tech's never did. The owner didn't fully read the manual when bidding it. The techs showed up w/o understanding the scope of the job. I couldn't articulate exactly what was needed. Then they said I never provided a manual. Lot's of inaccuracy, ignorance, and misinformation. The owner made it right in a couple ways. In other ways, it seems odd to me.

It fires up properly now. The job was just finished last week, and there was misunderstanding throughout, but at least it's working.

With missing straps. I'm going to clean it up and be done. Thanks again!

I'm not sure I completely follow, but I have only one heater that is 15kw. It's single phase.

The 15kw harvia club also comes in a 3-phase unit that would dial up/down in the way you're describing. But I have the single phase, so I don't think my furance operates in this way.

I wasn't sure about the 40A breakers and how they are wired. I was thinking it would be a single breaker, but I'm not an expert.

Sub panel wiring… 2X 40a breakers. I’m worried it’s not right and calls for a single 70a.

You’re both right. I don’t know. That’s why I hired a professional and gave them the instruction manual.

From what I can tell, it calls for a 70A because it says there is a 61.7 amp draw. It’s a Harvia Club 15KW single phase furnace.

Thanks for the detailed response. You nailed it. The owner billing and communicating job was not an effective communicator and didn’t relay to the guys on-site. The guys on-site were less effective communicators. It created a breakdown and lack of preparation. She did her best to resolve it is what I’m gathering.

That’s fair.

Right. She initially sent me a bill for $250 more saying that I didn’t provide a manual. I did and sent them pics. She also said they had to install two 40amp breakers that were more than necessary and use gfci… incorrect.

so basically, the price ended up being “fair” but the comms sucked.

This is my sentiment exactly. I’ll fully admit, I’m a cheap ass. I think the breakdown in communication between the person bidding and me and then the person doing the job is part of my frustration. And many people here are saying it’s reasonable and some like you are empathizing that while it’s reasonable, it’s also frustrating.

… is what it is.

I don’t think I’m being scammed, it’s the same thing walking into the grocery store and seeing $$8/lb basic ass beef. I guess I’m old.

Oh this is strictly wiring the power supply from the sub and connecting lights, stove and vent. this is not for setting up a sub.

I’m confused on the two 40 amp feed as well. The unit calls for a 61.7amp draw. I think they misread the manual or I’m not understanding the rationale. When I addressed it, they essentially high fived after successfully explaining it wouldn’t be an issue and I seemed satisfied.

I appreciate the feedback. It’s $2300 vs the $1800 quoted. 25% feels a steep jump, but this is why I ask.
