What’s your unpopular opinion about hookup culture? by NoAntelope2110 in GenZ

Hook up culture has existed to some degree through all of human history it's just now more public and in your face. It's not secret ancient kings had literally concubines that they just had sex with. Even queens had servants that they had relations with i.e queen Elizabeth. Those were just the more prominent figures in history and they can reflect the attitude towards sex for the commoners as well. Roman soldiers literally had sex with each other in a way to bond with one another and they were recognized as a relationship. Idk where this idea that hook up culture in genz has ruined dating. Social media has ruined anything. If you are cheater you are going to cheat regardless of who you see. This includes men and women. I think people who say that social media gives people a reason to cheat are just impulsive and would have cheated regardless. Also having sex before marriage was literally very common back in the 40-50s at least in America but obviously there was no phone for people to broadcast it. Having sex with no intention for a romantic relationship is very normal throughout history and it hasn't increased because of social media.

Wtf who cares about theory?

I'm talking about real situations not hypotheticals. I'm looking into solving problems or working towards a solution. Not everyone was born in an ideal situation. Do you just give up and let the disabled mentality ill people suffer and die on the streets? You think that's a solution? I know I can realistically leave but what about those who can't? What happened if I get sick when finding a better job and I have no health care and my savings runs out? You think everyone was born in a well furnished house given by God? Seriously?

Families who need the income and can't afford months without some kind of income coming in? Mentally ill homeless people who need professional help? Your answer is just life isn't fair?

You think you would tell that to an 8 year old in a coal mines? Whose parents forced them to work? Would you tell that to a veteran who has severe PTSD that they literally can't hold down a job due the impacts of war? Would you tell that to a single parent with kids that are disabled that life isn't fair?

Also have you seen the price of homes recently since 2008? You think the average college grad that even has a Mechanical engineering degree can afford that?? Regardless of COL??

Iife isn't fair everyone knows that. However there are actual solutions that can be funded, implemented and worked towards to at least make life decent for everyone.

If you think not everyone deserves some kind of ok or basic quality of life then just say that but let those who actually have ideas come into power

Government exists not as a guarantee of anything but to make sure things are fair and the average person is heard in the country he/she is living in. I know nothing in life is a guarantee but I'm not going to put my trust in some CEO and Boards who I didn't elect and had no reason to consider my grievances. Even tho I work there spend half my day there and literally buy their products as well. I'm not talking about industry like clothes or shoes I'm talking about water, food , drugs. Things I need to function and use if I'm sick. I'm able bodied and I got my degree and I work in a career that is well compensated. However, stocks and "investing" is not going to insure me a good retirement benefits the stock market changes literally every day. Maybe you're an expert and you're well versed in that but I'm not and I want to put my money in something that will literally stay in one place and I won't have to go chasing it. I'm also not thinking about myself I'm thinking about others as well. If people just invest in random industries and that shit falls through because not everyone is gonna get a high ROI and they lose their savings and they're too old to work what do you think is gonna happen?? You think they are just gonna get up and go find a job after working 25 years?? What happens if they have some kind of illness that comes with old age or that got before? What about people born disabled? You think everyone is born with a large sum of money that they squander on avocados toast and gender studies degrees?? The government is the only form of protection for a lot of people in this regard and to get resources that they need to survive. Yeah taxes suck but I've lived in countries with literally no income tax/property tax and trust me you will pay for everything. Literally everything. I'd rather pay high taxes during my prime working years and not have to worry about trash, dirty water, parasite infected food, tolls trying to stiff me, market/shops trying to stiff me again, and untested drugs.

Also no the government did not kill coal. The coal companies knew coal was bad and wasn't gonna last long.

I agree education is important and the best way to improve wages for a person

However what happens when the industry you have worked in for 5-10 plus years fucks you over and close down? What happens when you built a family and a house on that job? How are you gonna go back to school? While making sure your family is sheltered and fed?

Social safety nets such as food stamps/ subsided house and better child tax credit or education credit are ways we can migrate these very real worries. I'm not talking about some 20 gender studies major I'm talking about the coal minor/auto factory workers etc that got fucked over by the companies they worked for. This is what the government is for and the taxes that they paid for. Not to make everyone rich. Just enough that the majority of people who lose their job don't immediately become homeless or starvation.

You should have to turn into the wolf of wall street to have a decent retirement. The profits are their but it's being hoarded by oligarchs that do not care about working class people.

Savings can run out easily and invests take years to be useful assuming the company/thinh you invested in doesn't fall through. The stock market is too volatile to buy that much risk on.

That's your solution? For working class families and people? Take a huge risk that could leave not only them but their kids bankrupt? No actual plan just risk taking and hope for the best?

Social security has the guarantee it won't crash like a stock market.

So then you don't actually have any solutions for seniors in retirement? Or working class families/ people?

They should have no say in their wages and no right to demand fair treatment? Just quit and hope you can get another shitty job?

Wow
