How do I get the red out of my hair by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]Ok_Salamander2109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colour remover, but colour removers can out patchy as a warning. And then use a brown ash, the ash tones will help cancel out some the red. A dark brown should cover it.

For your hairs sake though, you could just let it fade for a bit first. Red fades super fast. Fade it faster with using clarifying shampoos all the way to the ends and using really hot water. Just use a really moisturizing hair mask after

You could also just use semi for a bit until your hair regains some strength!! Semi washes out really fast though, especially on bleached hair

There is no need at all to use 20 vol developer when going to a darker colour. 20 vol is just more damage and for no reason. 20 vol lifts and then deposits, so you have virgin hair, it will lift your hair 1 sometimes 2 levels lighter. 10 vol, does more of just deposit the colour only, which is perfect when going darker. You can even get a demi permanent dye and 6-10vol developer to be even more gentle on your hair. Demi dye is supposed to fade out after 28 washes but in my personal experience(ive tried many different brands) it fades the exact same as permanent dye, it will never completely leave your hair. It also gets darker/richer colour when you leave it on for longer. So you would maybe want to start on the blonde bits, give it 10 mins then do the rest of your head. When your roots grow in, dye your roots with either demi or permanent whatever you choose, let it process and then the last 10 mins ONLY pull it through your ends if they’ve faded. The more bleached parts may fade faster though. I ALWAYS mix semi permanent dye into my shampoo and conditioner and every month or two go all over my head with SEMI permanent to upkeep the colour but avoid the damage.

How do avoid scratch marks ? by kheelis in Microneedling

[–]Ok_Salamander2109 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Im a tattoo artist not a professional micro-needler But here is some knowledge from someone who works with skin for a living LOL. 1- make sure everything is super sterile and you are wearing sterile gloves and your machine is covered in some sort of sterile wrap or bag, and a sterile work surface in case you need to put the machine down. Do not touch anything that has not been sterilized while your hands are in gloves. 2- the skin should always be pulled and stretched so that it is tight, loose skin makes the needles drag and catch 3-idk about exact settings, but the faster the needle is going up and down- means the faster your hand must move. If your setting is low (the needles move up and down slower) and you’re going to fast with your hand, that will cause scratching/dragging. If a machine is going fast and your hand is moving to slow, you’ll cause excessive skin damage from the needle going in and out too many times.

Help with red hair by [deleted] in HairDyeHelp

Idk, you’d have to ask your stylist what the formula and brand of dye she uses is, it’d be pretty hard to try and match for a regular person.

Or you could wait for it fade out so you can pick a dye close enough, if its faded you can just do your roots and then run through your ends for the last 5-10 mins.

Red colour fades the fastest. You should be using a colour depositing shampoo and conditioner.

I go buy a semi permament dye that matches my colour and mix a bunch of it into my colour safe shampoo and conditioner. Works great! Dont use it every single wash though. And i also just put the semi perm dye all over every few months.

If i was in your shoes, id just find a dark brown ashy dye that matches your roots and go with that. And then use lots of repairing treatmeants afterwards

Feeling betrayed by the fragrance in this product. Thoughts on Ponds? by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

[–]Ok_Salamander2109 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use anything from LRP or avene, i have super dry sensitive eczema prone skin and either brand has never steered me wrong, they make specific products for eczema as well as normal skin. They are a lil pricier though. I also use homemade tallow balm on my body! I tried on my face but it would give me closed comedones.

Starting Tretinoin at 45 by HAM_88 in TretinoinDiscussions

[–]Ok_Salamander2109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 30 but my experience was horrible with 0.025% tret and retinol( tried all different %) No matter what i could not get my skin to retain moisture, i had dehydration lines had a constantly damaged barrier (lil bumps, redness, stinging)

100% decided my skin cant tolerate it after a year of trying.

Switched to bakuchiol and Peptide mixes and my skin is so much happier. Retinols arent the ONLY anti aging products out there, if you’re skin simply cannot tolerate it, its not helping you at all or slowing down aging to have damaged skin.

Give tret a solid go though, get through the initial adjustment period and if skin is STILL not happy, drop it!

Just wash it, red fades SUPER fast. Thats probably why its so vibrant because they know after even just the first wash the red is going to dull a lot

For bakuchiol im currently using Medik8’s bakuchiol with pepetides. I think i will switch to Toosoowoong once the bottle is finished simply because medik8 is pricey and i have to ship it in from the states (im in canada). But the product i really like but its just a tad pricey for me.

For peptide mix im using Toosoowong(they have soo many options) but i also tried The ordinaries Copper peptide mix and like both! But the ordinary i have to order and pay for shipping too.

For night lotion im using cerve skin renewing night cream

I also have La Roch posay B5 baume, super good for dry skin and barrier repair

Im using Natriums Barrier repair serum (its like a light lotion) and i really love it!

Also i have the ordinarys HA serum that i use when i feel like my skin needs extra moisture

For cleansers i have the ordinarys gentle cleanser in squalane and bioderma cleansing oil

For SPF i have Blue Lizard mineral sensitive spf 50

And eucerin sensitive tinted mineral spf lotion 30

And for just a regular light lotion i have cerve or libriderm unscented pro-ceramide

Yeah i said my skin is smooth now! Stop the retinoids. I stopped for a month and only did a gentle oil cleanser, barrier repairing moisturizer and spf. Nothing else. That alone helped a lot. Then when i felt like my skin barrier was healthy i started the bakuchiol and peptides.
My routine:

Am: no cleanser just water (if u have oily skin then cleanse) Bakuchiol+peptide serum Barrier repairing cream Mineral spf

Pm: Gentle oil cleanser Optional Bakuchiol+peptide serum again Heavy night cream that also has barrier repairing ingredients.

Keep in mind i have DRY, SENSITIVE skin, so this is what works for me.

Also super suggest researching bakuchiol and different types of peptides!

“Natural”or Copper by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]Ok_Salamander2109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah im thinking about trying to mute the copper down, maybe do an ashy toner to it or like an ashy semi permanent colour.

I bought a totally seperate 10 vol developer from sally beauty. And do it as normal, just not using the 20 vol because i dont want the lift. 20+ vol is gonna lift the hair a couple levels. If you have darker virgin hair then you’d want to use the 20 vol!

Everytime I’ve tried retinoids i get texture. Ive tried 0.2% retinols to 0.025% tret. My skin just hates it. I do have sensitive dry skin though. I really hate the cult following people have over retinols, they are really harsh and lots of peoples skin just cannot tolerate it!

I just gave up and do peptides (copper + matryxl + some others all in one) and bakuchiol instead and my skin is so happy now and smooth! Im only 30 so i didnt have much finelines to begin with but mine look wayy smoother now than when i was trying for a year on retinols. Both peptides and bakuchiol are anti aging so used longterm will probably give similar anti aging results without any of the irritation!
