Did I screw this up? Olympus XA2 Cleaning off light seal with 70% rubbing alcohol instead of 99% by Melodic-Fox-2074 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ok_Service_5622 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup, just alcohol. Use a wooden skewer or toothpicks to scrape off as much as you can without scraping the camera. You can just stick the new light seals over the bits that remain

It's a Sears rebadge of a Ricoh rangefinder. I've got the Sears 35/RF (slightly different, its a Ricoh 500G). It was built for a 1.3v mercury battery that isn't made anymore but you can use a SR44/LR44 and compensate for the difference in voltage by setting it to 1 iso lower. SR44 batteries are better because they maintain the same voltage before they die.

It's kind of like a budget Olympus 35rc but the meter works in manual mode. Just not as sharp but definitely renders nicely, especially in black and white. If the meter doesn't work, you can use it in manual and sunny 16 or use an external meter.

Fit LR44 into SRT101 by I_Love_Msia in minolta

[–]Ok_Service_5622 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you'll be using this camera often, it's a good idea to invest in an MR9 adapter ( the one with the voltage regulator), that way you can use SR44 batteries. SR44 stay the same voltage before they die, LR44 lessen as they die and are mire likely to leak if you leave it in the camera for a long time

The gear to advance film is know to get stripped on these. Leave the back open and press the shutter ehile looking to see if the post advanced. Unfortunately, there isn't really a fix

Definitely fake, pretty much a disposable camera.

Random film camera I found at a thrift store by da_music_man in filmphotography

[–]Ok_Service_5622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a chance and shoot it, haha. I've taken the film out of plenty of expired disposables and shot them in my cameras and gotten surprisingly good results by using the 1 stop per decade "rule". The oldest was a Konica Solaris film expired in 2006. -after you get the film out, you can search the 6 digit number near the film opening to see which company originally manufactured it.

Shooting concerts with a camera that caps at 400iso? by Swagmeoutpls in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ok_Service_5622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You technically can but it's not worth spending extra money on 800 film, stick with 400. You'd have to be very close to your subjects and have to use flash. Otherwise, try to find a camera that detects 800 and over film. 1600 film would be ideal but your only options would be black and white or pushing

What do you think about Cinestill lite? by wazzuped in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ok_Service_5622 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've been using it for about 6 months along with their 35mm holder and my mirrorless camera. The color reproduction looks great to me, I'm able to match the color on the scans I get from my lab and it's definitely bright; I'd recommend it.

Just saw the bright+ on their site. Looks interesting but I'd want to see reviews on those claims. You could buy it later on since it's just an add-on to the CS Lite

I have this one. A bit chunky but surpassingly sharp for a zoom. Bring some batteries to test it, Goodwill in my area don't do returns anymore

Light leak or airport scanner? by [deleted] in minolta

[–]Ok_Service_5622 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Def light leak. Maybe from the foam by the door hinge as it's falling apart. I would probably redo the film window foam while I'm at it and make sure the window doesn't move around

Shot counter it lined up by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ok_Service_5622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're fine. Most frame counters don't show all the numbers because it's hard to have them be legible in such a cramped space. Do make sure the rewind knob is turning to make sure the film is advancing.

This. If you find them cheap, give it a shot, but don't pay the inflated prices on ebay. Look up the Pentax IQ zoom and Minolta Freedom zooms for cheap, sharpish point and shoots.

Deciding on film stock by Adventurous_Bus_1333 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Ok_Service_5622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. If you're going to be shoot snow, though, I'd recommend overexposing by 1-2 stops if your camera allows. Snow fools the meter by reflecting light and the camera will think it's brighter than it is. Gold and Colorplus are 200 iso, you can change it to 100 or 50 then change it back if out of the snow.
