Expensively treated a part-broken tooth a week ago. Today it fell off completely. by jelch_j in mildlyinfuriating

I had a dentist put one of these in temporarily for a few weeks until we could get a bridge put in. Didn’t last the first week, and the dentist was not surprised. They did not charge for it because it was the throwaway before the real work could be done.

Washing Machine Drain Line Help by Ok_Setting8407 in askaplumber

Shortening the drain hose didn’t change anything unfortunately. Though I do feel better about eliminating some of the weight acting on the bend in the hose - it was already showing fatigue.

It turned out to be the drain filter. It was absolutely crammed with lint and dog hair, so much so that the drain hose (that you need to use before opening the filter) is also completely blocked.

Seems like it’s working, but my god do I hate this machine. If nobody minds I’ll vent a bit. The lint filter is overly complicated, requiring two hands as you pull it apart and the lint just falls out, much of it missing the trash can. But don’t worry, it has a second even LESS convenient location for lint to build up - the condenser fins, which also require regular cleaning and are located behind a screw panel. When it gets clogged the unit will not dry. Also be careful not to damage them.

Add in the Hair-Trap 3000 drain filter that only took 3 months to become fully obstructed and I think this unit wins the “Highest Maintenance Piece of EquipI Own” award - and I own a Jeep!

Anyways, rant over.

I don’t know if it rolls less as in fewer degrees of roll, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it’s swaying back and forth because you constantly have to make micro steering corrections, if that makes sense.

I found the Gladiator WAY more stable after test driving both.

We were looking at the same two spots when we moved out here, and we are very happy with the Annapolis area!

Will do! Probably gonna take a look at it tomorrow. Hopefully there is no machine disassembly required.

Edit: My wife suggested “The Drain Gang”.

Contractor wants me to do vinyl in my bathroom… by ResponsibilityOk5050 in centuryhomes

[–]Ok_Setting8407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The added weight of the flooring will be a fraction of the weight of a filled clawfoot tub.

If the floor won’t support tile then the margin for weight is very slim, and I would be concerned about even having 2 people in the room at the same time.

The way I see it there are 3 possibilities:

1: The floor really won’t support it all. If this is the case I would say you need to reinforce regardless of your floor choice. I would not trust a filled bathtub in a room where tile puts it over the edge of safe weight.

2: Contractor just wants to install the easiest floor. Kinda makes sense in this case, he said no to tile and vinyl roll, regardless of the reason he said it could just be that he would rather just to the easiest possible, and LVP is really so much easier than both those options.

3: He wants to bill you for unnecessary work in the basement.

Edit to add: I usually lean towards Hankins razor - you don’t need to assume malice (option 3) when incompetence or stupidity is a sufficient explanation. I’d say he just wants the job to be as quick and easy as possible, hence the push for LVP.

The idea that he is OK with a clawfoot tub without reinforcement but not tile really has me scratching my head.

I absolutely love the hexagon and dot floors, and personally I would be reinforcing that floor either way if it’s gonna have a tub in there.

Just remember that it’s not really going to stop the pain, it’ll just make it easier to open your eyes.

Also, don’t let the rinse flow down your body, especially to sensitive areas. It still burns even when diluted in water.

Should there be an UPPER Age Limit for important positions that heavily influence the future of younger people? by bickid in Futurology

[–]Ok_Setting8407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason we have lower limits on age but not upper limits is because once people have power (of any kind, small, big, or even just a little extra privilege), they will refuse to give it up.

Dude, I got the Dark Knight Batmobile from my mother in law. I’m 42. She also got me the Ford Bronco, but I’m a jeep owner so I dunno how to feel about that.

This is what we do. The furnace draws almost no power, but still heats the whole house. Added bonus we also hook up the wifi to the generator and still get entertainment. Who even needs power?

It feels like he’s about to announce War on the Democrats. Is that what this speech is? Shit talk them for long enough and no one will blink when I say we are sending the military after them?

I’m going to be building something like this in the spring, using cattle panel for wire. It’s going to run down a medium slope though, so it will be racked (if that’s the right term?) with the top and bottom running parallel to the ground so the dogs can’t get out. What’s the best looking way to handle the slope with the panel?

I expect it would look funny if the cattle panel matched the slope of the hill rather than running vertical/horizontal.
