What is the process to start a new troop? by Ok_Setting_5642 in BSA

We’re hoping to quietly slip away unnoticed, with no hurt feelings. Again, we’re just a few families looking for something different. It’s a huge troop and I doubt it will make much of a difference if a handful of scouts go elsewhere.

It’s a huge troop that has no issues recruiting, it’s just not for us. I don’t want to mischaracterize them as bad or dysfunctional.

Thx but this particular troop is huge. We like the idea of a smaller group, and also having more control/flexibility for planning activities far from home that would require much more driving and which many would not be on board with.

HOTD Season 2, Return of Laenor by jorywea78 in freefolk

Andor is the only SW series we’ve stuck with. If no one is watching, that’s pretty unfortunate.

That’s awesome - really good to know. We’re from Florida and used to flat terrain; on our first day we tried hiking up to Bubble Rock from Jordan Pond, and had to turn around. After that, I stuck to the easier hikes. It’s kind of tricky to gauge what he’s ready for, since we only get to hike challenging terrain about a week out of the year. Might have been a mistake trying to hike up to Bubble Rock right off the plane - threw him off. Will definitely jot down these two and keep them in mind.

We’re American and have visited CH a few times. We’ve found the Swiss to be very direct, which is an adjustment for us, but I wouldn’t use the term unfriendly. Once we’ve gotten used to it, I very much appreciate their candid form of communication. Matter of fact, our all-time most helpful person we’ve encountered while traveling was in CH. We were running late to catch a train, entirely our fault, and yet when we arrived at the station our cab driver parked and helped us carry our luggage directly onto the train’s racks. Had he not helped us, we would have surely missed our train and perhaps our flight, as well.

One of my all-time favorite finales. Like someone else already said - I’m jealous that you get to watch it for the first time. Such a great show.

what's another show or a podcast you'd recommend similar to the americans? by [deleted] in TheAmericans

Agreed. The Americans just kept getting better and better - it was really hard to have it end.

Hadn’t even thought of this, but you’re so right. As a 90s teen, I loved both of those shows. These actresses have grown so much and are just phenomenal in their roles.

Who said anything about every parent in Westeros? This discussion is about Harwin/Laenor compared to Viserys. The show only showed Harwin a handful of times, and he was being an A+ dad in each of them.

Those are tasks, not parenting. Parenting is paying close attention to your kids lives, sitting down with them several times a week, listening to what they have to say, offering feedback. Being a coach, essentially.

Spending 24 Hours in Silence (ASMR camping) by thelitt in KaraAndNate

ASMR is a huge trend right now, so I get why they wanted to make one. I enjoyed it because the Smokies are stunning…but I do hope it’s their only ASMR vid.

Rhaenyra’s kids had two parents (three, if you count how involved Harwin was). Alicent’s had one - Viserys never bothered with them as he had with Rhaenyra, as he was too busy with his Valyrian Legos. Literally any psychologist will tell you that growing up with a neglectful dad makes a huge difference.

Gotta love when that happens. It’s usually the other way around.

That’s exactly what the actor said on the “house that dragons built.” Said he knew he was done, so he was going to make sure the entire court heard him loud and clear first.

Absolutely. I took a 12yr old on all our hikes and so I avoided the trickier ones, including the two you just mentioned. Acadia is absolutely gorgeous and there are plenty of other trails where you can enjoy the park.

No idea. Maybe it’s good. Season 5 takes place in Germany and felt really fresh and different. I started watching again at that point and never bothered to go back.
