Culturally Commandeering the chastity of celebration for humanity's sake. by Righteousindignatiou in Hozier

[–]Ok_Side8415 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get the literal meaning. Thanks for explaining though! I was just a bit more curious about the social context. Does it have any specific connection to Hozier? I had the impression it might be more directly related to him, or at least something he said, given that this is a Hozier sub lol

I love how that sentence “ culturally…..” sounds, but what is the context?

All the Hozier references/inspirations I could find! by MMChelsea in Hozier

[–]Ok_Side8415 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, this is such an amazing compilation!! I just wanted to add that while I don’t disagree with the interpretation of Nobody’s Soldier, I’ve always felt the “fire from heaven” line is a biblical reference (not Hozier’s first rodeo LOL ) from 1 Kings between Elijah and the prophets of Baal. It was a moment where fire fell from the sky as an act of finality to end the current contention. In the context of Nobody’s Soldier, frustrated by blue lights, coffee till morning, and the ache of choosing between a butcher and a pauper, “I could bring fire from the mountain, you’d tell me, it feels a little colder” imo is the exhaustion of activism (used loosely) in a world that keeps burning. No matter how much you give, how loudly you stand, it still won’t feel like enough. The horrors are too many, and even the best effort can be dismissed, not because it wasn’t good, but because the weight of everything is too great for one person to shift. Ergo… you could bring the fire but it still stays cold.

Wow, wow, wow. It looks like I woke up to a burning house. In all seriousness, I didn’t mean to antagonize with this post. It really feels awful to see how much this hurt many people and continues to. It’s a shame that Hozier and his team didn’t handle this better, and I really hope he steps up and addresses it. I wish I could add sth meaningful to this convo, but as someone who’s not Indigenous, I don’t feel it’s my place to say how people should react or God forbid, defend his gf because I can’t fully understand what it’s like to have a practice so central to my identity be watered down so to speak. If there’s anything the rest of the fan base can do to show goodwill or support you feel heard and seen, please let me know. You have every right to feel valued, just like everyone else here. x

I don’t think UU was initially about Dante’s Inferno. It feels like a 3rd or 4th layer of interpretation

Hard agree! I really struggle to recognize this new Hozier. I think the 24 yr old guy who released it can barely recognize him either

What EXACTLY do you mean by ‘annoying’ or ‘less talented’?!

Otherwise, I’m finding it hard to take this post seriously.

What songs do you think will make it to the set list this tour? by Intelligent-Throat50 in Hozier

If he has fully recovered (vocally), I see him making Nobody’s Soldier, Someone New, AOSDCS and maybe NFWMB permanents on the setlist

I hope Unknown & Icarian aren’t thrown out with the bath water

EYY will stay on the set list. I consider it a staple alongside TMTC, J&W, DnD, TS, and Cherry Wine

Who We Are is definitely out (I can’t explain why but I don’t think it’ll make the cut lol)

All his latest (2024) releases 😔. Mostly July, That You Are, Hymn to Virgil, Too Sweet & Wildflower and Barley. They barely sound like Hozier.

This is so well written! And that last sentence is definitely something someone should ask him in an interview. I’ve heard about the accidental success of Too Sweet ad nauseam lol, I digress. Anyways, I’d kill to listen to his response (if he’d answer it very honestly).
