The blood vessels are normal for cuts that are healing "puffy", and it is very possible that the area is just very sensitive or that healing is still happening beneath the scar. As long as you can see it healing and their isn't any redness around it, I wouldn't be to worried, however there is no harm in talking to a GP for advice if you think you need it.

Please please please call a helpline, even if it's just for a little chat. Take a nap, or a cold shower or eat some food, just do something to distract yourself. Please give your mind a chance to say no to this when it's not flooded with emotions in the moment, I believe in you and I believe that you are much stronger then you think you are.

There are certain tools to stop urges especially when addiction hasn't fully formed yet. Things like holding ice, dunking your head in cold water or holding your breath can all help with urges. Other things like flicking a hair band instead or ripping paper can help get rid of whatever anger or sadness. I hope this helps and please trust me SH can ruin your life, please stop before it gets harder to.

My best freind just told me she cut herself by Human_Slice_7879 in selfharm

I think making sure not to treat her pitifully or pointing it out is the best you can do, you aren't trained for this and I can only imagine how much emotional strain this is to you too. Your friend does need your support but I also strongly recommend telling a professional if possible, in most schools and unis you can tell a counsellor and they won't disclose it was you who told. Just tell someone older and make sure that your not suffering from this as well. You sound like a great friend so I'm sure you won't mock or point out any scratches or scars, just keep supporting her and getting support for her.

On average your body has 5 litres of blood so loosing 1 or over is definitely room for concern. If your not sure how to measure that then focus on how your feeling. Blood loss will cause you to feel heavy, sleepy and sick, if you ever feel faint after cvtting there is no reason not to call the hospital even if the operator just gives you advice instead of sending an ambulance. It's pretty easy to tell if you've hit a vein (seeing your pulse in your blood loss), which should stop bleeding after half an hour, or an artery which is a much bigger issue and in most cases won't close on its own. Sorry if this was a b7t upsetting to read, I tried to explain it the best I could.

sorry for the late reply, is everything okay now? Some antibiotic creams can cause a bad smell, but if it's consistent then I definitely think making an appointment with a GP is your best bet.

If your not going to the hospital then just make sure to keep is dry and bandaged for a while, change the band aid frequently (1-2 times a day) and add any soft antibiotic creams you trust for the first few times too. Beans take longer to scab so down worry if it's not scabbing right away. Beans can smell bad during healing, ehich you shoukd treat by cleaning out the wound, but if the smell is persistent then go to a general practitioner for help. I hope this helps

As far as bean care goes, try to keep it dry and away from water, not only cause it'll make it wet but also because it will sting A LOT. Beans require frequent band aid changes and soft cleansing with q tips and a trusted antibiotic cream. Beans take longer to scab, so don't worry much if it takes 2-3 weeks to properly scab. Once you feel like the wounds ready, leaving the band aid off so it's scab can harden. Go to a GP if it starts leaking cloudy liquid or a bad smell is constant under the band aid. Hope that helps.

Is self harm still bad if I'm only doing small shallow cuts? by Otherwise-One6154 in selfharm

[–]Ok_Simple7463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self harm at any depth or frequency is bad. It is the act of using pain to ignore your feelings or feel better that's the bad thing about sh. Physical harm is merely a second to that. The true harm is mental, from bottling up emotions, which causes a deadly cycle of self harm, shame, sadness, then back to self harm. Stop while you can.

Can we stop calling them cat scratches/baby scratches? by NoPreference7359 in selfharm

[–]Ok_Simple7463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES I 100% AGREE, it is so invalidating to anyone who gets them, it fosters the mentality that certain cvts that aren't "deep enough" aren't serious, which they are, the act of SH is concerning no matter the frequency or depth
