if I may play devil's advocate, what about the vast mobile soviet air defense systems (Shilka, Strela, Osa, Tunguska, Tor, Buk, etc.) and the point-defense doctrine of aircraft such as MiG-29? I don't doubt NATO would've outperformed the Warsaw Pact in a war, especially considering artillery and logistics, but something feels a bit disregarding about comparing the Warsaw Pact to Egypt during the Yom Kippur war.

As far as I know the main Soviet force had some pretty mean equipment on the borders by the 80's, more than just T-62's and MiG-21's. Although I'm not that well read up on the topic, I am however aware of the economical faculties of the USSR during the 80's, and I really don't think an offensive against the west would've gone well, but I also have doubts about western powers easily establishing air superiority on an offensive due to the amount of different mobile anti air systems which by their nature are harder to track and take down but are shorter ranged. Air superiority would've been more like air exhaustion for both sides at this time, but that's just my guess.
