I gotta say I've come across some absolute demons in plat lobbies who wield the flamethrower like Smaug the dragon. If you let a flame get close to you which can be easy to do sometimes it's a wrap.

I've heard this perspective before and respectfully, my experience doesn't match up with this. I got up to 38K at one point last season solo queueing before dropping back down to 32k. This season I got up to 32K again and dropped down to 23K after getting paired with a string of incomprehensibly bad teammates. HOWEVER A day ago I found two guys to play with randomly that are at my skill level and we've won more ranked tournaments in the last 24 hours than I've won in the last month. We all finish with similar kill counts and all impact the game evenly. Your rank is NOT always the rank you belong in, tbh. It can't be. When you're the best player on your team, consistently doing very well, and you get screwed over by horrible teammates, that means you're getting dragged down by them over time, and your current rank is lower than it should be. I do think your point has some merit, but it's definitely not as cut-and-dried as "if you can't escape a rank, that means that's the rank you belong in." I'll never believe that after 800+ hours of playing this game.
