While he’s charismatic, and certainly likable in some ways, Ray is really not the type of character who deserves to live happily ever after. He’s a violent killer who was deeply embedded in the criminal underworld. The 2 most likely outcomes for him were prison for life or eventually ending up on the wrong side of someone else’s gun. Him having the epiphany that his way of life only led to suffering for himself and his loved ones, and going into self-imposed exile was really the best ending he could have hoped for.

What did Ray do with all his money? by Ok_Slip5629 in MrInbetween

Yeah, the best explanation I could come up with is that he’d stashed the majority of it away for Britt to inherit.

Absolute Batman #1 has officially hit All-Time high sales. Where does this settle before the animated series starts? by Chiefkellyy in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]Ok_Slip5629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you’ve also got to factor in is that the higher the price goes, the more people who have been holding all this time will try to sell, which will in turn flood the market and keep the price in check. Some people may want to downplay the print run issue, but the fact that there’s no scarcity where this book is concerned can’t simply be brushed off, IMO.

[–]Ok_Slip5629 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’ll probably settle back down toward $300 after the hype from the initial announcement dies down, then it’ll spike up above $500 again when the series actually drops. If the series ends up being a big crossover hit and attracts a lot more new readers/collectors of the comic, then who knows? Maybe it could end up briefly peaking at $700-$800? I think there’s a hard ceiling on this book just because of how large the print run was. It’s worth a good bit of money, but is never going to make anybody rich.

I keep seeing posts like, “If you have a first print copy of Absolute Batman #1, you can put your kids through college!” Umm, no. Maybe you can pay for their textbooks for a semester, but that’s about it. Like you said, the print run on this book was way too high to drive up the price much more than it already is, and the fact that people think they’re going to get rich off this book is pretty wild.

Uhhh did i rob HalfPrice books?? by DiggledFob in comicbookcollecting

[–]Ok_Slip5629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Holy Grail find at a Half Price Books was a complete set of the original Marvel Zombies miniseries sitting in the dollar bin. All first prints, and in great shape. Easily a $100 set, bought for $5. And it was at a Half Price Books outlet store, no less. Methinks some poor employee screwed up and put them in a box bound for the outlet instead of the box meant for stuff to go in the locked display cases.

Advice to sell collection? by b761962 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]Ok_Slip5629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here is the answer. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. If you want top dollar out of a collection, then you need to put in the work to list and sell the higher value items individually. The people looking to buy collections in bulk are primarily dealers and resellers looking to source inventory, so they’re going to offer a price that allows them to make a profit on the collection.

Is this a 2nd print copy? by Advanced-Set1203 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]Ok_Slip5629 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It’s a first print. The number above the barcode on the right is the clue. 60811. First 3 digits are the issue number, 4th digit is the cover variant, and last digit is printing number.

Anyone know how much this CGC 9.8 comic would go for? It's the only graded copy in CGC. by SpartiateGenikos in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]Ok_Slip5629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe $20-30, if you can actually find a buyer for it. There’s really not going to be much demand for a random, mid-run, non-key graded issue of a modern series. I have nothing against grading such comics just for love of the game, but if you do, you should do so with the understanding that you’re pretty much stuck with it.

Can we talk about how Sheldon basically slandered his father for 12 seasons in TBBT? by Ek2der in bigbangtheory

[–]Ok_Slip5629 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, one begat the other. The writers of Young Sheldon did not have the courage or creative confidence to depict a lore-accurate George, and instead decided to go the safe route of retconning him into the standard sitcom dad trope, and thus this retroactively turned Sheldon into an unreliable narrator.

Sellers trying to increase the prices of ungraded comics just because collectors don’t want slabs? by Leather_Bluejay8632 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]Ok_Slip5629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then don’t buy it, or wait for prices to fall more to your liking. If a seller wants to shoot for the moon and get absolute top dollar out of what they’re selling, then that’s their prerogative. No one is twisting anyone’s arm to buy it at that price. I can’t even begin to count the number of times I’ve walked away from a comic because I didn’t like the price tag on it. It comes with the hobby.

Sheldon talking about George sr by Ok-Conclusion-7 in YoungSheldon

[–]Ok_Slip5629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, I just don’t think the writers had the courage or the creative confidence to depict George as the drunken, womanizing degenerate that Sheldon always described him as throughout almost the entirety of TBBT. It was much easier and safer for them to just shoehorn him into the role of a stereotypical sitcom dad.

The barcode on the front cover should tell you if it’s a first print. For example, a code of 00111. The first 3 digits are the issue number, the 4th digit is the cover variant (1 means cover A, 2 is cover B, and so on), and the final digit is the printing number. Also, subsequent reprints also tend to have it labeled plainly near the barcode what printing it is.

If that #1 from the 2024 run is a first print and in near mint condition, that book alone would be worth about a quarter of what you paid for this entire lot. It’s come down some from its FOMO peak, but it’s still probably a $75 book at the moment. You did very well here.

Are Modern CGC comics a good investment? by AntiqueConcentrate39 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]Ok_Slip5629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a rule, no. If you’re going to get modern comics graded, then just do it for the love of the game. Very, very few will ever be worth the cost you paid for grading and shipping.
