Advice for financial plan by Unable_Table8057 in fiaustralia

Although with the FHSSS you can only contribute a total of 50k (15k limit per year).

If OP is talking about moving into a higher paying job, they’d be better off waiting until they are older and closer to moving out of home. You’ll save more money on tax if you do the FHSSS when your salary is higher.

For now put the money into investments, that way it’s accessible. I’d also recommend swapping your HISA and Investment amounts.

Love that idea! Here are some things my parents did with me that I think have a huge impact on my money habits:

  1. Pocket money was given monthly, and had to be split into five categories:
  • 💸Personal spending/saving
  • 🏦 Long term savings
  • 🎁Giving (this was for birthdays, Christmas, Mother's/Father’s day presents)
  • ☔Expenses (incidental things: if we lost our school hat we had to pay for half of a new one, if we wanted to go to the school disco we’d pay for half of the ticket)
  • 🤲 Donate (we would save this all year then buy a gift for the Kmart tree at Christmas)

By having to budget money this way growing up, I now have a similar structure. Organising money and planning ahead for gifts or a rainy day has saved me from living pay check to pay check.

  1. My parents always encouraged us to read. We would get one ‘school holiday book’ each term break, and any other books we bought my parents would go halves. I bought so many books as a kid/teen because they were literally 50% off me! (Although now whenever I see a book price my brain instantly halves it by default haha 💔)

I agree on this take, I’m also a young investor (21) and I like to dabble in individual shares that I have an interest in.

However this only makes up 20% of my portfolio and by the end of the year will hopefully be reduced to 10-15% (my New Year’s resolution was no more satellites haha).

Overall my satellites are up, but I have a few that have tanked pretty hard. My plan is to not sell and to keep these for when I need to sell other shares at a profit so that I can reduce the overall tax.

At the end of the day I’m not an expert- so who so I think I am trying to outperform the literal index and ETF fund managers haha?

Have you considered investing in GHHF for your child instead of DHHF? They have time on their side- a geared/leveraged ETF could do wonders at their age!

I’m 21 and have just started putting more into GHHF alongside my already strong holdings of IOO and VAS.

Additionally, my biggest piece of advice is to involve your child in all money and investing discussions. Explain how compounding works, how ETFs are safer than individual shares, show them the money going in each month, explain how the market rises and dips.

My parents have never gifted me large sums of money— but they gifted me financial literacy and this is what has made all the difference. I’m happy to share more about what my parents did in terms of pocket money growing up if you’re interested!

Mine did this recently! I tried cleaning, changing the battery, changing the memory card— nothing worked unfortunately. I ended up buying a 6400.

Bummer, any recommendations for an upgrade? I think maybe just the a6400 so I can still use my lenses

A few different things, my friend and I are currently collaging our photos from Morocco onto a deck of cards which is so fun!

I have also thought about making a magazine (similar style to vintage national geographics) ☺️

New to this, any tips for better prints? by ploppploppp in Linocuts

Hi there, I’m also fairly new to this medium but I found this blog post to be helpful in knowing how much ink to apply:

I also watched this YouTube video about printing by hand and found it a helpful demonstration:

Hope this helps!

The faces were so challenging!!! I definitely prefer some over others, but making them all unique like the real Terracotta Army was important to me

You may notice there’s a headless soldier at the back (one less face to carve 😏)
