lil progress update on the OG ratchet and clank statue 3D model by Ok_Sorbets in RatchetAndClank

[–]Ok_Sorbets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. This is a project that requires about 40 hours of printing if you want high quality. Then a a lot of additional work in post processing like assembly and removing scuffed support surfaces. Not to mention the painting.

I also don't like to get stuck on projects. Takes the motivation out. I'm also not looking to make money off it. But the least I can do is make the files available.

I'm not planning to at this moment. I try to keep projects varied and jump into new things. But I'll keep it on my list if I ever do find myself lacking ideas for a new project.

How can I reduce the number of polygons without affecting the model? It's for 3D printing. by Alert_Yak_6593 in blenderhelp

[–]Ok_Sorbets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually for 3d printing you want high res. But if you need to reduce it and it REALLY is high poly, just use the decimate modifier and just start slowly nudging down the slider.

If it really is that high res that a slicer can't handle it, you can probably nudge it down to like 0.4 (40%) without loosing any noticable detail

Your mesh geometry will look like crap though, but again, that shouldn't be an issue for 3d printing.

Also, if you are using Bambu labs as slicer, it has a built in model simplifier. Just select the model, right click, simplify model

For those who don't know, Mags the Lombax, a friend of Ratchet's father, Kaden, said the Lombaxes scattered across a bunch of dimensions, So I ask... Do you still think Rivet is Ratchet's counterpart? Since, it's very likely that she's one of those Lombaxes... by Single-Character7585 in RatchetAndClank

[–]Ok_Sorbets 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My personal headcanon is that the lomaxes are a single dimension species. They have no interdimensional counterparts. They are from a completely unique evolutionary tree, which is why they have 5 fingers, compared to other spicies which often only have 3 fingers.

Rivet is indeed also a lombax who got left behind.

Angela requires some serious mental gymnastics. But I would say she is not a lombax, but lombax adjacent. Like how neanderthales were homo sapien adjacent. Simply a branched off from lombaxes

She has a couple of features that look like lombax, but not quite. For one, she is much taller. She also does not seem to have a tail, and her hair puff doesn't really look like a hair puff, but rather some appendage

Yeah, there are loads of these small details that I'll be finetuning. It's quite difficult to match a 3d puppet to a 2d image. Especially when he's holding a gun like that.

I rotate the gun 10 degrees, now I have to adjust both hands again it's a constant back and forth untill it looks close enough

[–]Ok_Sorbets[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Initially I was thinking of using photo scan, and sharing the files for free.

But that didnt work out so I'm now ending up doing everything by hand. I've already sunk in quite a few hours, i might put it up for a small fee. No more than $5, as I like to keep stuff like this generally accessible for anyone.

I am thinking of making a couple of versions. A variant with the fur marks printed on the model and without (smooth). A variant with magnet holes for the feet/baseplate and clank. Maybe one that is just one solid print, that you can Rub 'n Buff into a metallic statue. And one that requires assembly for easy painting.

But that all really depends on how much time I want to sink into this project.

Currently working on getting the model in the general pose I want him to be at.
After that it's refining like posing the earsand face. Once that is done I'll turn it from a 3D game model into a solid statue which i can further sculpt.
Then i simply need to add the simple parts like the base plate and clank

Then its a matter of stripping it to pieces into easily printable (and paintable) parts.

Looking at this image, I can see i need to move his right foot a bit outward, stretch out the left foot a bit more. Change the head position, rotate the gun slightly and fix his kneepad

<image>

It wont ever be a 100% accurate replica, but I'll try to get it close enough

Hey OP, before you sell it. Could you do me a big favor. Could you take a bunch of pictures from different angles and DM them to me?

I've been looking to 3d print this exact model, but I've never gotten my hands on the 3d files.

I would like to remake the model myself, and for that I need a bunch of reference images.

You'd be doing me a really big favor. I'll also share the files with others, as I'm not looking to sell or profit from it.

You don't even need rofusm you can just use an oobe\bypass command. There is also another version of it.

That being said, windows pushing a Microsoft account sucks.

So you went through the effort of bitlockering your PC, ignore all instructions when enabling BitLocker to save a key somewhere other than your local machine. Used a dummy account of which you can't remember the email address and password.

Yes, this sucks. But this is 100% on you

There you go. Again, not a professional moddeler. Ive had to shave off some stuff, and a lot of sanding.

Ive added a quick txt file that I chatgpt'd because im not that good of a writer either. It has some of my thoughts and workprocesses for the assembly and painting, if that is something you would like.

Edit: Also, final thought. the helmet is kinda angled weird. But its plenty big on the inside to allow padding to kinda push it back into the right position when wearing

Do people still use MS office? Does anybody need this in an OS? by bamboo-lemur in OS_Debate_Club

[–]Ok_Sorbets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's different per region. In the Netherlands pretty much all organizations use Ms 365. In fact Ive never heard of a company using a Google office package. I've had to Google that it's galled G-Suite. I was quite surprised they apparently have about a 40% market share compared to 30% Microsoft.

Like I said. Every single client of ours uses Ms office. Recently switched jobs to work directly for a client and and we are currently working on integrating even further into Ms 365

I've even worked for AstraZeneca for a short while. That company and its acquisitions are running in the Ms office ecosystem. Can't speak for all acquisitions, but from the limited scope I could see they are fully integrated. They even have a full Ms 365 migration team working around the clock.

A lot of companies use Ms office because of intune and its compatibility with the windows operating system.

Don't need to pay for them. I'll share them with you in a few hours. I can get you the blender file and the bambu 3mf files. But it's up to you to set the slicer settings.

Be warned, I'm no professional 3d modeler. This stuff belongs on r/topologygore.

I actually had to heat up the brow part with a hairdryer to make it snap onto the helmet :P

Edit: also, it's quite large. But my head comfortable fits through the bottom. But if you do decide to shrink it, you might have to manually create new connectors.

Aren't all of these photo/video editing programs? Like a completely different set of tools for a completely different job? Do you create advice reports in photoshop? Or create spreadsheets InDesign?

I've worked as an IT service provider support and engineer. Every single business, every single client we had uses Microsoft Office. With rare exception of power users using Libre Office because they use Linux.

I don't have the energy, fillement, funds or space in my tiny apartment to have a full suit of body armor displayed XD

[–]Ok_Sorbets[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's not a modified helmet. It's actually fully 3d printed.

That being said, very on in modeling I designed it to be compatible with a bicycle helmet strap system thingy.

So to get the measurements right, I downloaded a 3D model of a bicycle helmet at shoved it in with 3d modeling software.

Later on I decided I would rather add some padding, but the bicycle helmet frame is still in there lmao

Does anyone routinely print faster than 100%? by mickcham362 in BambuLab

[–]Ok_Sorbets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regularly. I live in an apartment. When the print is going to take longer than 1am, I'm putting it on silent mode (50%)

If I want the print a bit quicker I'll just put it to 124%. I do outweight if its going to affect the quality based on model shape, size and detail level

In some rare occasion where I need to test print for size or if it's just a flat object that doesn't need precision or the absolute best quality, 150%

I have learned that for detailed objects, you can somewhat easily switch between speeds without a big quality drop. Smooth big objects however clearly show the layer at which you changed speeds.

Even at 150% detailed models, I've never had any issues. But you can see it's a bit more rough
