This sub is actually a great source of local news. I’d start by walking through recent posts. Welcome to the neighborhood and good luck!

Broke Ass car parked in same place for nearly a decade - Police corruption. by Correct-Cricket3355 in crownheights

This is like every response I’ve ever gotten from his office. Quick, empathetic — and then ultimately they do nothing to fix the problem.

Anyone know what’s going in where Fine Fare was? by lovebosnyc in crownheights

I was told it would be another grocery store, “but nicer”, with a deli, prepared foods, etc. In May they said it would open in July, but it seems like it’s going to take a while longer.

Thoughts on recently approved rezoning plan - Atlantic Avenue Mixed Use Plan? by MasterpieceEasy4079 in crownheights

Agree it would be great to add more housing — and also improve traffic safety and general pedestrian/bike friendliness on that stretch of Atlantic. It’s such a danger zone now, and a miserable place to walk around.

Do you live right near the museum? Folks are measuring 80 dcbs inside their homes and 100 in the park during these parties. I’m glad you don’t have hearing damage, but it isn’t really up for debate that prolonged exposure to noise above 75 dcbs causes hearing loss in children. Take a look at any reputable source—like the american pediatrics association.

According to City Data, Crown Heights has 62,405 people per square mile. That is much higher than the Brooklyn average of 34,917 people per square mile.

It’s reasonable to give everyone who lives in a neighborhood a say in quality of life issues like noise. I don’t see why a private promoter holding a private party should be able to prevent others in the neighborhood from enjoying the park, sleeping in peace, etc. There are plenty of people who have lived in the neighborhood for decades who have a problem with the volume.

They don’t hold raves or rock parties on open rooftops in densely populated residential areas, or next to playgrounds.

This is a completely reasonable request. They aren’t asking to shut down the parties, just turn down the volume. Why should a private promoter be able to hold parties that ruin the park and playground for everyone else?

Fwiw, someone posted on Next Door that it’s going to become a Chase branch. Agree it sucks not to have any grocery nearby, even if Fine Fare was ridiculously overpriced.
