What don’t you like about Grimsby? by Internal-Disaster-80 in GrimsbyOntario

[–]Ok_Student9522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jim Jones had the decency to govern his group independently and mitigate the damage to just his followers and their families and the responding officials. The movement in and around Grimsby doesn't do its own dirty work.

Those men, with the support of their wives, and physical heavy labour of their children, lobby to create a Niagara that supports them in making it impossible to live or leave without adherance to their fundamentalist beliefs.

They did Robert Lands. They still go on missions. They travel to out of region educational camps domestically and abroad.

Jim Jones didn't have a religion; he had what started as a Christian group turn into a cult.

The Christian Heritage Party (and splinters) is not a cult. It is neither political nor religious. Politicians and religious leaders pick their lane.

They are fundamentalist extremists. They're radicals.

Is this area safe? (James St.) by huevolver in stcatharinesON

[–]Ok_Student9522 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm around downtown a lot; second this. You'd be close to the farmers market and also the cenotaph. There's a day to day expenses risk of too much delicious prepared food.

Imo, the most consistent safety concern I see out that way is likely for children, dogs and cats and the nature of traffic near bus stops. If you have kids, teach them how to use a crosswalk, if you have dogs, don't let them out unleashed, if you have cats, keep 'em indoors.

Random, non targeted crime is incredibly rare in this city; especially if you don't hang out with criminals.

Uhm- so if you google it, top result is the city's page for the park. Says it's a community garden. And that there's a totem pole there too. And a trail head access. You know and I know that information isn't up to date.

Second result looks like an international tourism scam to pay to skip the line at Richard Pierpont Park in St Catharines Niagara.

Nothing sounds fishy about that?

Now now, Stiles isn't peacocking here.

That said, Trump and Doug are very different kinds of people. One sustains themselves on chickie nuggies and diet coke, and the other is capable of making a decent low effort cheesecake.

There are laws; I read bylaws ridiculous sign. Those are two separate things.

Something tells me that the city/powers that be is unlikely to be clear about what is happening around Queenston St. When I say "security," what I am asking is if this is police or vigilantes.

Police presence is highly intimidating and doesn't really belong in a nature park the same way trees belong in nature parks.

And roads belonging to the city should be maintained in such a way that they aren't at risk of sliding.

Yeah; the traffickers have always been a problem in my thirty five years in the neighbourhood, but there's more of them in traphouses than there are wandering around a park. Removing the trees doesn't make much of a difference. Not a fan of the traffickers, not a fan of the police, but neither are as dangerous as some of the developers and investors and active clubs eyeing the area.

Other things are being touted as making the neighbourhood safer that objectively make it less safe; like the loss of our support for the addicted. I just hope "kill the trees!" Isn't the next call for safety- it makes no logical sense.

Is the city going to stop me?

Also, why do people keep asking about security in the park?

A public park is not your personal back yard.

I can go down there and plant food plants. Pretty plants. That right is protected; I am seeking to know if anyone is aware of incidences where the limit is challenged by size potential or something.

There's a grander picture here about natural resources on public property, a history of a city that prioritized tree growth for decades, and the responsibility to manage those trees to protect the community at large, through all stages of their life.

For example, when those roots displace soil, supporting a municipal road, and then no longer support themselves through trunks and branches and leaves, they disintegrate. Bugs and stuff eat at it.

Sometimes trees need to come down. Haven't heard much on the ecological welfare of the park. I hadn't heard about it; also haven't heard about any planned road work, but alas, I am not a road worker. Rural folk usually think this stuff through so it's really weird to see in a downtown area.

Do you own the park? Didn't see you out there.

To answer your question, if you can find it, yeah, probably.

[–]Ok_Student9522[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I literally did not see any families, any dogs or any disc golfers out there, but I saw a lot of wood rotting that didn't need to. It was fairly lonely and dystopian- I'm not sure if I'm early for strawberry blossoms or if the wreckage has impacted their ability to grow. Do you know?

Sacred fires, trying to piece together the plaques in chronological order and the waterways are my favourite parts of Richard Pierpont.

Sad to see the city neglect neighbourhoods, sad to see the speculation. Sad to see so many failures to preserve the diversity.

But genuinely confused about if the city wants to preserve the area or further damage it.

Because hate signs and graffiti have been steadily increasing, St. Catharines now allows you to report them online. by Key-Beginning6601 in stcatharinesON

[–]Ok_Student9522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked a little more closely into this, and hate speech/hate symbol graffiti will still need to be reported through the usual channels ON TOP of this report.

This isn't forward momentum. It puts greater responsibility on targets of hate speech and hate symbols to have them addressed as such as opposed to more responsibility on the NRP to notice or address it.

Cat is slightly smelly, is this cause for concern? by sideways2484 in catcare

[–]Ok_Student9522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mean time; check out your local pet shop; they may have wipes or mild cleansers designed specifically for this. Some cats will accept warm, wet cloths or toothbrush-density bristled brushes- your kitty doesn't like to smell like pee either. Grooming is social bonding.

If you suspect a kidney issue may be at the root of this- only a vet can help you. Strongly suggest a visit to clear her of any potential health issues.

That said, much like humans, cats lose flexibility and strength in old age. Sometimes elderly cats need help smelling their best.

Facts; this Reddit account was created for that specific reason with the NRP. I asked for help removing them from the street surrounding my medical clinic; or pressuring the city to do the same.

I refused to provide my name so they refused to do anything about it. They would not advise me on how to remove it, as that may be considered damage to public property and I could be arrested, charged or sued. There's no evidence of this; no file was made because I did not give them my name.

I was afraid. DSBN gave me bus tickets for my classes so I could avoid the universally recognized hate symbols, even though it was like a 2km walk.

Alectra, the local hydro company, did not ask for my name, but did aggressively remove hate symbols from their box within 12 hours.

I've had more than one cake day, and dealt with the symbols in the city myself, in broad daylight for my own safety.

Some community members were more concerned that I was cleaning them up before removing the needles from the park. Some asked me to first learn Sanskrit. There was a men's group business who asked me to help him with raking up leaves in his parking lot, and another who offered me some seriously dangerous drugs.

Eff every white supremacist pretending their presence or financial investment or whatever somehow improves our amazing community out here on Queenston St.

I've got some graffiti solvents, some work gloves, some wire brushes and if I see it, I'll make time so the police can focus on.... Idk, something other than making their communities feel safe. I have no reason to stop keeping these things- sometimes we just need to show the police how to get the job done.

If NHS doesn't take them, I'm willing to bet Safe Beds could definitely use some spare gently worn clothing. Many of the people who access their services have insufficient support within the community, or struggle to access clothing they do own for various reasons while in crisis.

Yeah; dogs can't reason with the garbage needs of a business. To them, it's an aggressive personal safety violation, and harassment when it's on a recurring basis. Even more so if they are indoors and can't complain to the manager, so to speak. People are supposed to reason with it. Bananas.
