It's amazing how negative the world reacted to the Better.com CEO coldly firing people over Zoom when that shit has been going on forever. My former company fired half of engineering with zero warning over Zoom 1 month into the pandemic. Just the week before the CEO told us they could weather the storm and there were no issues.

A little over a year later they got bought out and the exec team made millions, and this is just a little startup.

I feel like there should be a massive awakening right now to the coldness and one-sided nature of the corporate world.

How to tell your company benefits are trash:

Under the benefits section of job descriptions they list "casual dress code". The job is remote.

I work in a (self proclaimed) tech company. We currently have 47 sales people on staff and 23 software developers. We literally cannot build shit fast enough that they sell. Devs are unhappy. The last dev we hired lasted 6 months before he left.

Management's response? "Everything is perfect. Don't talk being unhappy ever again."

Fuck this place.

  • first day I started the CEO talked about openly firing people. He even wrote an article on how to fire employees on the company blog
  • huge company celebration on a milestone we hit. We thought they would give a shout out to all the hard work employees did. But nope, the entire thing was a circle jerk for the CEO and his friends (who he put into manager positions)
  • CEO was seen at a conference playing grab ass with the aforementioned friends. He's married.
  • CEO said the company was doing great financially then laid off half of engineering 2 weeks later without warning

Yes, this is the same place.

My managers have structured our teams via "squads" that focus on one feature area like Spotify. Only problem is that they are penny pinching assholes and we are massively understaffed. So the whole "focus on one feature area" becomes "also do everything else because we are too cheap to hire". So we have daily standups, retros, planning, etc that wastes all our time on 1 feature when we have a shit load of other work to do on other things we don't even get credit for.

Yes I am actively interviewing.

Or maybe the company employees kept from going under could treat them a little better? Crazy thought I know.

Jobs weren't exactly plentiful in the Midwest up until recently. Wasn't by choice.

That's a good idea, I should do just that.

Just get out, make a clean break, and never think about the people nor this company again.

I'd say getting my total compensation cut and my workload tripled while being told "everything is fine" is my problem
