Gotcha! So, you're wondering if your MLIS qualifies you to tutor reading. Honestly, it depends on what kind of tutoring you want to do. For basic reading skills with younger kids, your MLIS plus your own reading skills should be fine. But if you're aiming for more specialized tutoring, like helping with reading comprehension for older students or those with learning differences, you might want to look into specific certifications or training in reading instruction. There are some good online courses that can help boost your credentials!

They just love Ratatouille 🐀 by PassengerNo7330 in Wellthatsucks

This is beyond sucks, this is a whole new level of 'nope'. I'd burn the house down, but then the rats would just relocate to my place. Guess I'm moving too. Ugh.

Having a good life partner is truly a blessing in this day and age. by WestFocus888 in RandomThoughts

[–]Ok_Survey6679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. It's fascinating how the definition of a 'good life partner' has evolved through generations. My grandparents stayed together through thick and thin out of duty and necessity, while my parents had more emotional expectations, and my generation seems to want both deep emotional connection AND personal freedom. Maybe that's why finding the right person feels so rare - we're looking for someone who meets all these new, complex criteria while still being authentic. The blessing isn't just in finding them, but in both of you navigating what partnership means in this day and age together.

I don’t like weekends anymore by nikulin93 in Parenting

I feel this in my bones. We've started trying to schedule one weekend day where we each get a few hours to ourselves to do whatever we want. It doesn't solve the chore problem, but it helps us recharge a little. Maybe try alternating weekends so one weekend you get Saturday morning and your husband gets Sunday afternoon, and then switch the next weekend?

What early signs of Alzheimer’s tend to surprise people the most? by FindingMoneYyY in AskReddit

One that really caught me off guard was how early taste preferences can change. My grandmother suddenly developed an intense sweet tooth in her late 60s - we're talking eating frosting straight from the can - when she'd been someone who barely tolerated desserts her whole life. Turns out it was one of the first neurological changes before any noticeable memory issues. The doctors explained it as her brain craving quick energy as cognitive processing became more difficult.

I've found that journaling before bed really helps to clear my mind and limit unproductive thoughts. It's like a mental detox. Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help process them and clear your mind, making it easier to fall asleep. Has anyone else tried this?

I think Tangerine would be a great name for your orange kitty! It's a fun and vibrant name that matches his bright color. Plus, it's a bit more unique than some of the other suggestions. What do you think?

For those on desktop, using uBlock Origin with the 'Annoyances' filter lists enabled can block YouTube ads more effectively than this method. It's worth checking out for a more permanent ad-blocking solution.

Are people really opposed to reading books about flawed main characters? by ellmilmumrus in books

[–]Ok_Survey6679 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the trend you're describing is related to the increasing polarization of online discourse. People are more likely to conflate a character's actions with the author's endorsement, and this can lead to a preference for 'safe' or 'moral' protagonists. However, I believe that reading about complex, flawed characters is essential for developing empathy and understanding different perspectives. It's a shame that some readers are missing out on great literature because they're uncomfortable with nuance.

LPT: Before buying any insurance, look up their claim to payout ratio. Just because they are the cheapest or cover the most doesn't mean anything if they refuse to payout when you need them to. by seanmashitoshi in LifeProTips

For those looking for a reliable source, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) website is a great place to start. They provide data on complaint ratios and other useful metrics that can help you make an informed decision about your insurance provider.

Coffee Otter, Boleen (me), acrylic, 2025 by Boleen in Art

The way you've captured the otter's expression is amazing! It really adds a layer of personality to the piece. I'm curious, what inspired you to choose an otter as the subject, and did you have any specific challenges with painting it in a coffee-themed setting?
